The fourth in Nintendo's kart racing series, Mario Kart Double Dash is an interesting game that adds new ideas to the series' existing formula. The most obvious is that there are two racers to a kart, which some people find almost useless, but I think it works very well. It also up to two items to be held and to be mix and match characters' special items. Also, something exclusive to this game is the co-op mode, where one player controls the driver, the other throws the items. The game has many modes; Grand Prix with various settings, versus mode (human players only), time trial, co-op mode and the excellent battle mode. This is the first Mario Kart game to add more than just the Balloon Battle to battle mode. The graphics are very good, however sometimes the characters look edgy, or shiny, still the graphics are good nonetheless. The sound is great! While the voice acting can get a little annoying, the characters have great and wacky voices and the sound effects are great as well. The thing that really stands out however is the soundtrack! Just incredible! I've never heard better Mario Kart tunes! Among the best are Rainbow Road, Wario Colosseum, Bowser's Castle and Daisy Cruiser! The lifespan of the game is fantastic also, and if you have friends there's plenty to go back for. The only main gripes I have are that there are only 16 courses, and that the AI feels just a little cheap at times. Other than that, a great game and a must own for anyone with a Wii, a Gamecube or a fan of Mario Kart.
