Sonic Mega Collection User Review

A cool trip down memory lane.

It's been 17 years since Sonic first came out on the Mega Drive, so if you feel you've wanted to play it again, here is the chance. First of all when you boot it up, nothing special. The menu shows the games' title screens.

The games you start off with are Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Further games can be unlocked, these are (spoilers alert!): Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and some unrelated games like Ristar and Flicky.

While this is all great, they have missed out some games, most notably Sonic CD. Master System games would have been nice too, but it's no big deal.

The comic scans are quite nice to see and flick through, there are good scans of the covers.

The videos are a nice inclusion but there is one problem, Sega didn't think how outdated they would be now. It's ok with the history of sonic video, most people know what order they come in. It would have been nice to see some old Sonic 1 ads in it. The American ad "why can't he be like that nice boy Mario" one would have been a very funny addition.

The graphics are well reproduced and look just as they were back in the days.

The gameplay of them is untouched by time, still showing up even modern Sonic games. Ok maybe not Sonic Adventure.

Overall it's a good recommendation, good if you don't have your Wii online yet. So revive those game you love and get the fun you loved time and time again!
