Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party User Review
Great tracks! Refreshing twist.
Waited for months for the US version to be in stock. US game title comes with one dancing mat.
Hardware
The Mat however, uses a GameCube Controller Slot. I was initially thinking the mat will be controlled via Bluetooth Link. But it disappointed in this aspect.
The quality of the Mat is good. It's textured and definitely feels like it is from Japan. It's softly padded and feels great although you may spend quite a lot of time on the mat.
However, the Mat is somewhat made-for-japan sized. I just find that the center area (for resting) is a little too small. But then again, you are supposed to rest your legs on the arrows anyway.
Software
The title screen is superb and full of 'oomph'. Makes you can't wait to start the game. There are a few modes available.
The main mode is called the Revolution Mode. This is the main story mode. Through conquering worlds (Dancing stages), you get to unlock new Tracks as you progress.
FreeStyle mode is self-explanatory.
Workout mode is something like a freestyle. However, you are working towards a target. Like exercising for 30 minutes, or burn 200kCal.
I am unable to play the multi-player mode as I do not have an extra mat. However this can be experienced on some stages where the Computer will send someone to 'challenge' you.
This is when the special Wii version comes in.
Apart of the shake of the Wiimote / nunchuku on your dance steps, now there are 'disturbance' moves. You can hit the move successfully and the 'disturbance' will move over to your rival side. If he is successful in countering it, then it moves back to you. Anyone who is unable to hit the 'disturbing' note will have penalty.
The Tracks are wonderfully mastered. The arena is beautiful. However, it is a waste that we can only select from a few character. Also customization is minimal (a change of only 2 clothes).
The VERY DISTURBING thing about the interface is that during the dance, you CANNOT PAUSE, CANNOT RESET. The Home Button is deliberately disabled. This can be a frustration when you have say chosen the wrong song or the wrong difficulty and wanted to go back to the title. But it is disallowed and thus you have to wait for the song to finish first.
Overall, this has been one of my best Wii Game acquired yet. Replayability is very high.
