Mario Party 8 User Review

If you have friends and multiple remotes, this is a good buy.

Wow, 8 already. You would think that Nintendo would have fixed all the chinks by now. But if this is your first Mario Party, or you have a special gift to ignore chinks, then this is a great game to pass time until Corruption, Galaxy or Brawl.

The controls are overall great and respond well, but there are some games that have you turn the remote clockwise and it doesn't always respond well. There are also some other games that make you hold the remote like an NES pad. I expected more motion games.

Another factor is graphics. They look like a GCN port, and there is no real widescreen support, which is annoying. Sound effects are great, but hearing, "I'M THE WINNER!!" all the time can be torture.

The single player mode is horrid. The AI characters always seem to be really, really lucky, which is frustrating.

Now the good: multiplayer. Having a few friends over with a few wii remotes can be the sole reason to buy this. The boards are creative and random. Mini-games can get competitive with friends. Non-gaming friends will understand easily and still have a blast. Miis can also play in certain mini-games, but I wish they were in party mode.

All in all, multiplayer is fun, single-player is bad, and about half the minigames are fun.
