Metal Slug Anthology User Review

Not quite arcade perfect like it says on the box, still goodish though

I first played metal slug 8 years ago and have been a strong fan ever since owning in the past the actual arcade carts. So I know the arcade versions inside out, now onto this version!

The first noticeable thing was the lack of a decent proper control system! They spent so long making fun ways to play it, but overlooking a standard setup (closest being to use the gamecube pad). However the reason it's wrong on the gamecube pad is the lack of digital control with the D pad. BIG mistake in my view. The next thing WHY ON EARTH was there no Classic controller option? What were they thinking. I've spent ages getting used to the wii remote on the side as jerking the pad to chuck grenades is a little on the clumsy side to be honest, I play these games to finish in 1 life and it's frustrating to lose one because of the control system!

Well now onto the game itself, next thing I noticed is in places they have changed certain sounds, an example of this is the plane sounds on level 1 of metal slug 1. So that's why it's not Arcade perfect, very very close mind!

On the whole though this is a great addition to a wii collection and I still recommend as a game, as long as you take into account the controls. I would have given gameplay the full 10 otherwise, and also the sound 10 if there were zero changes with the audio.
