Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity User Review
It's games like these that keep Sonic alive.
Ah, Sonic The Hedgehog, speed icon who lately has been under fire for some not-so-stellar games. But I can happily say Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is not one of them.
Zero Gravity's story centers around a meteor that falls to Mobius. This meteor, which Sonic has conveniently found, has proprieties to control and bend gravity itself. But a group of rogue robots want this meteor.
The gameplay is fairly simple, but takes a little time to get used to. The Air function from the last game has been replaced with Gravity Point, or GP. And don't worry, if you run out of GP, you'll still be on your gear, which is a big plus.
There is also the new addition of Gear change, which after collecting a certain number of rings (20, 50, or 70) you can have certain elements added/changed, or change your gear. The good news is, if you get hit, or fall of a ledge, you still keep your upgrades, unlike the last game.
The new function, gravity control is a fun addition. It is used in several ways, when activated using the 1 button (or the B button on the GameCube Controller) it is used for sharp turns, or finding hidden walls or passages.
When shaking the Wii Remote up and down (or pressing and holding on the R Button on the Gamecube Controller) you'll get a massive flying boost, which you can use to get some distance, or you may use it to hit objects to use a meteor boost, which is a Mid-Air Dash, that restores your GP.
When it comes to difficulty, the story and missions are a lot easier than the previous installment. This makes it kinda short, but a lot less frustrating.
The graphics are pretty well done, and show the Wii's graphic capabilities in certain scenes. The musical score is a pleasure to listen to.
All in all, Sonic Riders is a pretty good game. It's short, but fun. I'd recommend renting this if you're not too sure about it though.
