WarioWare: Smooth Moves User Review
Wario is still farting strong.
"It's a Wii, Wario! Wa ha ha!"
These are the words Wario greeted me with as I prepared to activate the game. I was thrilled by it at first, but after a while I got exceedingly irritating. But that has nothing to do with the game, so I shall proceed with the review.
As a relatively new Wario gamer, I have now been assured of the minigame series' might. Although it certainly has its bugs and undesirable quirks, it is a solid entry in the Wii game roster.
As an inhabitant of Japan and (okay) speaker of Japanese, I decided to wait for January to come to play the game in my home language. Upon completing the game, I wish I had just gone to Seiyu bought it in Japanese (Odoru no Wario), because the game requires little reading ability. Aside from my irritation with myself, I had a good time.
The game features about 10-13 levels, each with a light story relating to the character. The microgames are, for the most part, very fun, but the amount of recycling Nintendo used in some of the levels really got me ticked. Some of the stages were ENTIRELY used micro games. While that is a bad thing, the games that aren't reused are often brilliant. For example, I played the boss stage Red Steel-ish sword game and the boss stage Star Fox Jet game several times, just for fun.
Unfortunately, the balance stone (nunchuk assisted) games were surprisingly horrible, the flag game in particular. This micro game was incredibly unresponsive. The only innovative use of the balance stone was in a neat little multiplayer game in which two little runners have to jump over potholes.
Warioware: Smoothe Moves was a nice little time waster (admit it, that's what video games are), but I wouldn't say it is one of the triple-A titles that us Wii fans have been waiting for.
