400,000 Wii consoles for Japan launch

Nintendo have confirmed that almost 400,000 consoles will be available for the Wii launch in Japan. This is practically four times the amount of PS3s that were around on its slow-selling launch.

It's not currently known how many Wiis other regions will have.

How can they afford to have only 400,000? Is it not true that the big N has already sold over 700,000 Wiis here?
