Animal Crossing has long been rumored to hit the Wii. A piece in Japanese newspaper, the Kyoto Shimbun indicates the rumors are likely true.
The paper features a picture captioned "Let's meet in Wii" (but in Japanese obviously!). See below:

Let's meet in Wii.
The game is also rumored to make use of Mii characters, so watch this space.
No it's just a phrase, don't really watch THIS space. Go to another page. Or post a comment.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

With mii characters this might be ok. I have always loved animal crossing. Pimptastic, now when does it come out?

I'm almost positive that they would have an Animal Crossing. It was one of the biggest games on the GameCube. It was one of the biggest games on the DS. It seems plausible that such a successful franchise would be on the Wii.

Pft. You don't say! They've been dropping hints all over the place. They even brought it up at the E3, when they introduced WiiConnect24.

I hope they have the internet on this game and you can have multiple Miis in the Animal Crossing city at one time. Maybe have a sort of password thing that you can Wiimail to your friends so that nobody else can get to your city.

Of course they will make an Animal Crossing game. Like Koen van Beeck said, Nintendo mentioned it as an example of the capabilites of WiiConnect24. That sounds like a pretty big hint to me!

We just got this on the DS and can't stop playing! Hopefully it'll be as good as the DS version (to be honest it should be a lot better!) and not take too long to come out.

I just had a cool idea if they do make a AC for the Wii. For everyone who is connected to the internet it could connect with the Wii weather channel and let the weather in the game be the same as it is where you live.

Why wouldn't they bring this to the Wii? Don't they see the possibilities? There could be a "Train Terminal" where everyone can meet and greet with whoever happens to be online at the time, then hop on a train to wherever they want! Of course, it'll be impossible for everyone's town to be listed, but if you give a friend code to the ticket window, you can go straight to your friend's town. Or, you could just hop on a region-specific train and end up at a random town .
As you can see, I'm psyched.

Bored, that's already in implementaion. I'm not sure which future titles will support it, but I agree, it's an excellent idea. The only disadvantage that I can see is where people live in extremes. For instance, in seattle, it would rain in your town almost everyday. And here in texas, it would hardly ever rain. And if this is going to be in other genre's (shooting, racing, MMORPG) who's weather would it adapt to? The host or would it be individual?

That'd be cool, I hope it is a LOT more interactive with the wiimote.

More breaking news: Mario likely for Wii. It's practically given that Animal Crossing is coming. It would be a great game to showcase Nintendo online.

Hey Iza it's funny you mention Seattle. I live in Lakewood that is only like a 40 minute drive from Seattle.

A cool feature would be a cell phone. You could call your animal friends to find them (so you don't have to do tedious walking). And you could also call your friend code friends.

Animal Crossing's destiny is to be on the Wii (hell, they even made a movie). I'm looking forward to this game the most; only second to Brawl. I love AC.

Animal crossing would be a lot better if you could play as an animal.
