Reggie bites into Apple
In a new interview, Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime talked about Apple's entry into the games market with devices like the iPhone and new iPad.
Apple is not having an impact on Nintendo when you look at our business, our volume, our hardware, our software. I've seen data that suggestions that while consumers are constantly downloading Apps, they play with them for a few times and then they are moving on to the next thing.
Clearly it doesn't look like their platform is a viable profit platform for game development because so many of the games are free versus paid downloads.
If our games represent a range between snacks of entertainment and full meals depending on the type of game, Apple's aren't even a mouthful, in terms of the gaming experience you get.
So Reggie doesn't sound worried. Do you think Apple will be a major contender in gaming at any point?

Never, they don't get gaming, just like Microsoft, ipad is no gaming device nor is iphone.

Reggie's got it spot on. Apple product games don't feel like gaming. I'd never choose itouch over ds for example.

The iPhone is an interesting tool with interesting applications, but gaming isn't really one of them. Like Reggie said, most of Apple's gaming apps are like little snack packs compared to those on dedicated gaming platforms. Some of the snacks are admittedly tasty, but they don't hold up to the full course meal of a game platform. I don't think we need to worry of Apple cutting too far into the gaming world for now.
