Bill Gates - Nintendo is the toughest

World's richest man Bill Gates said in a recent interview that Nintendo is "the toughest competition". A massive 180 from the man who not long ago didn't see Nintendo as competition at all!

Here wii go again Bill Gates making a fool of his rich self. He states motion sensing isn't mainstream, then 2 weeks later Microsoft state they're researching motion sensing to enhance gaming. Then he states Nintendo is a toy, a gimmick and not competition and only ps3 is serious competition. Now only days later he states Nintendo are the biggest competition. PLEASE MAKE UP YOUR MIND BILL! Everyone who's involved in gaming knows both Microsoft and sony will copy wiimote or try to, so Bill's rants are seriously silly. As far as I'm concerned, only Wii is next gen. The other machines do not impress. Ps3 is just a giant psp and 360 is plagued with crash and burn issues. Both have old fashioned gameplay controls, longer than tolerable load times (in this day and age ohh please). Wii is a games console and a damn good one. Ps3 and 360 don't really know what they are: JACK OF ALL TRADES - MASTER OF NONE.

Bill gates has no place in video games, and should go back to spending his time helping people in Africa.

Apparently Bill Gates is hanging out with Kutaragi. They both talk BS about Nintendo then turn around and copy their ideas. That just proves that if Nintendo does not innovate, the console market will just be filled with powerboxes. Awww, look at that big ol' 360 and PS3 are afraid of the tiny little wee Wii! That's the second MS exec that publicly praised the Wii. This is good strategy by MS though. They are "siding" with BigN in order to phase out PS3 in the wake of its problems. "Attack it while it's down, I always say". There are rumors that Tekken 6 and MGS4, of ALL games are no longer PS3 exclusives. 360 already has a large library, install base, AND XBOX Live. 360 just has to fix its bricking probs! Sadly, BluRay is PS3's only saving grace. Even a game like Ratchet and Clank can realize its true potential on the Wii. Wii truly has no competition! That's the truth, not fanboyism. Although, if SquarEnix ported Final Fantasy 7, 10 and 10-2 International to Wii, then that would be SWEET! But I guess that's wishful thinking. 2007 is going to be the biggest year in gaming, I guarantee it!

Just go and fix the problems on the internet bill, microsoft was only good at that not making consoles.

I would have given up on video games if Nintendo's console was the same as Microsoft's and pay$tation'$. So bill isn't losing any profit from me (what he needs profit for is beyond me).

I hear you, master foot. Microsoft totally hid behind Nintendo during the holiday season. The XBOX 360 may already have sold 3,000,000 systems, but the fact that when they first came out they blew out if you left them by another object while they were playing, tarnished the system's image and they are now selling slower than the PS3 and the Wii. I don't think good old bill there likes that too much. If the gaming portion of microsoft collapses, that wouldn't be too good for his stocks (and that's pretty much all he has left of microsoft now that he's retired).

Yup, and Wii will continue to be everyone's toughest competition.

Heck, Microsoft can't even get their backbone (windows) to work correctly half the time. Need I say more? *Alt+Ctl+Delete*.

Awww come on, Microsoft has done nothing wrong compared to Sony. Not saying M$ HASN'T done anything wrong, it's just that Sony's mistakes have been WAAAYYY bigger.

Agreed, but then there would be no Halo. Lets just keep X-Box out of Nintendo's business. Not out of the whole picture.

All Gates did was admit Nintendo to be a worthy adversary. I think that was very humble and unbigoted of him. He didn't say "Ohnowe'regettingourasseshanded DDDD:", either. All he said was that Microsoft considers Nintendo a better competition than Sony. So I don't think Bill needed this verbal beating. I do agree with WiiBoy, but I can certainly see what makes him say those things. I didn't expect any less from Microsoft than to underestimate the Wii. But now that it's out, the competition is undeniable.

Why is it that when I send the "error reports" form IE, they never get fixed. Maybe I will use the Wii Opera browser instead!

Why not just sony and microsoft leave the gaming business because now they can't keep up with the times.

A guy like Gates admitting that the tiny "underpowered" box is a superpowered juggernaut? 2007 will be a year for the record books.

Xbox360 is a great machine. I love mine, and nothing can compare to its live service. Its graphics are on par with PS3, and it has an awesome catalog of games, along with a constantly growing library of Xbox game being added to the backwards compatibility list.

360s are ok and all, but not the hardware problems. If you're thinking about buying one now- don't yet, the failure rate is too high. Also Xbox Live is seriously overrated. They need to get some proper dedicated servers that are open to the public, not noobs trying to host random games on their DSL lines. There's no such thing as a fair game on Live, whoever hosts has a massive advantage and everyone else lags like shit. MS are barely doing anything at all to merit the subscription fees. The whole interface is over simplified, there should be a server browser where you can at least see your ping before you decide whether to join or not. The way it tracks achievements and the ability to download demos etc is cool, but the actual gaming side of Live sucks ass considering you have to pay for it.

The Wii rocks and sony and Microsoft suck if they steal Nintendo's motion sensor. They don't deserve to be even considered game companies, they need to work their own problems out and think of new ways to improve systems and sales.

This is a very thought provoking article. But really, any way you cut it, Bill Gates doesn't know that much about video games. He is the chairman of Microsoft (actually not spelled with a '$'), not the XBox team. That would be Peter Moore. Peter Moore is an ass, but he says that he would give all five of his family's Ferraris if Miyamoto would work for the XBox team. Bill Gates, in terms of video games, does not know what he is talking about, so don't take him seriously.

I agree with the almighty Master Foot on Microsoft's way of thinking. And to add insult to injury, so far the only promise Sony has delivered on with the PS3 is Resistance: Fall of Man. I haven't played it yet, nor will I until I don't have to sell myself for the PS3, but I've heard nothing but good things about the game. However, that's all Sony has at the moment, besides the diehard fans. That's the only thing keeping it up right now. Sure, it took Microsoft a while for it to realize just how eye-popping the graphics can be, but they haven't made any empty promises aside from backwards compatibility being fixed. Nintendo, once on top of all others, is slowly rising again, and others are noticing just how tantalizing its wee Wii can be. If not 2007, sometime soon after, Nintendo's Wii will be overflowing with gaming goodness. I get the feeling you're all laughing at me. Is it something I said?
