Clergy criticizes Resident Evil Wii

The Right Reverend Mark Bryant, Bishop of Jarrow (real pic) and other members of the clergy have raised concerns about Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles on Nintendo Wii, claiming it glamorizes violence and promotes the occult.

"If we dabble in this area we open ourselves to influences and put ourselves at risk. I would regard any encouragement for children to be drawn into this behavior with extreme horror".

Leo Tan from Capcom rubbished these remarks and put out a statement defending the game:

"This is scaremongering and typical religious hysteria. You cannot blame society's ills on video games. It's just absurd. Most games (and movies) like Resident Evil show characters fighting evil not supporting it".

"Unfortunately the clergy is showing a lack of understanding of the video games industry and is too quick to splash the holy water and lump video games players into stereotypical boxes.

 Video games are entertainment and like horror movies or other scary films they are covered by a ratings system. Resident Evil for example is a 15 certificate and not suitable for anyone under that age. Parents have to be trusted to adhere to these age restrictions and use common sense".

He's just mad because he couldn't get past the first boss. But seriously, I think he's just looking out for the little kids, I don't think he really cares what anyone else does.

*Sighs* I despise people who wine about the violent themes in games. Not just because all they want to do is use gaming as a scapegoat and blame it for all the world's wrongs, but also because they fail to realize that despite all their complaints there has never been a single piece of scientifically SOUND test or piece of evidence connecting games and real world crimes/violent acts. Not to mention according to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, all violent crimes such as murder, robbery, etc have all decreased by over 40% since they reached their initial peak in 1994. Yes 1994 right around the time games slowly became more and more violent and vulgar, isn't that sort of ironic Mr Clergy Man?

Did not say this. Did not even know it was about the occult! Amazed that the game needs people to ascribe things to me- and others- which I did not say in order the promote the game.
