EA - We were on the wrong horse with PS3/360

At an investor meeting earlier today, John Riccitiello the CEO of Electronic Arts admitted they were mistaken to focus on the Xbox 360 and PS3 early on.

"Our stock hasn't moved as much as we'd like, we were on the wrong horse".

EA recently slipped into the #2 spot of 3rd party publishers for the first time in years, overtaken by Activision. However, sales are expected to be stronger in the second half of the year.

If cubeboy101, a mere working class blue collar guy in the uk can predict exactly what was going to happen, please explain how so called experts and gaming management professionals can't work out the damn obvious. Wii was always going to DS the competition. It shows these people don't actually get gaming at all.

We've heard it before, that graphics don't make a game. Apparently, graphics don't make money either, relatively speaking. It would be suicide for 3rd party publishers to make console exclusives this generation.

What was that old proverb? "Mind over matter", right? It looks like Nintendo's outfoxed the competition with its less-than-spectacular-with-the-graphics Wii, and they even got EA to recognize its glory (after significant losses; I've noticed that its stock (ERTS) dropped significantly lower than I've seen it since '04, overtaken by General Mills).

Graphics don't make the game, but good graphics are nice. And the Wii's graphics are nice enough for me.

That pic is classic! Yeah the PS3 has horsepower, but there's no giddyup and go for sales as of late.

Gee, I wonder why the sales are going to be stronger. Oh yeah, less focus on utterly horrible and more expensive game systems. If you spend less money and sell more games, guess what: YOU GET MORE MONEY. Why didn't they realize this way earlier? Oh well, at least they realized their mistake and they're doing something about it. They could by all rights continue to be dumbasses and be bankrupt by next year.

Yeah, when you have madden coming up your sales are going to get better. I really hope now that EA puts the NHL series back on a Nintendo system.

You know it's really funny that EA say that they are on the wrong horse. After all, they loved reaping in the profits when PS2 and Xbox were selling millions. Why then would they decide to swallow their ego/pride/themselves and back Wii in the console race?! Hmm. Perhaps it's because Wii has sold 10 million units in 8 months. Versus Xbox 360 sales (12 million in 1.3 years) or maybe it's because Wii is practically pwning in Japan. No, I know. EA have jumped ship (just like numerous others) because Wii is fun, and graphics and profits can't compete with fun.

Yeah serves them right. Nascar 08, NCAA 08, both of those titles should be on the Wii. They need to get their act together and see the future of gaming.
