European Wii shortage?

European Wii shortage?

Alarming news for Europe when all seemed to be going well.

Play, one of the largest online retailers for the region have sent out an email stating they won't be able to supply preordered Wii consoles on launch day because of an European shortage.

Oh no! My neighbors to the east! I hope that gets fixed, also I hope it won't put any damper on the US launch.

Shocking news. I haven't even ordered wii yet. I hope this is play's own mistake. Not Nintendo's.

No problem for me. You CAN'T even preorder the damn console in The Netherlands. Believe me, I've tried for the past couple of days.

It's been blown up from a report that Play will have shortages not EU/UK in general. I fully expect Nintendo to have more Wiis than they're letting on.

Ey cmk, the only reason your country gets it first is because they have so much money! No offence but I hate America. They were making fun of me and my dad when we went there 4 years ago in the hotel.

You know cubeboy, that would be a whole lot of Wiis seeing as they are making TONS of them for the launch.

I'm so glad I preordered mine from GAME. I had a good experience with it in the past (got my DS Lite the day before it came out in the UK!) so I decided to try it again. Yay!

If this is true it will really put a damper on Nintendo's Unit Base. If Sony can turn this to their advantage, big N might be in trouble.

Well I ordered mine from Game, a brand I trust but I get mine after it comes out, oh well better late than never I suppose.

I doubt Sony will turn it to their advantage. In the EU they won't be selling until March. And there've been rumours the release date for the EU may get shoved back even further.

It's only true due to the masses of people pre-ordering the console, the first shipment is almost sold out there will be a second shipment before xmas.

Preordered my son a Wii from Game online early October, got an email from them this morning as follows: "We regret to inform you that due to severe stock shortages of the Nintendo Wii, we will be unable to fulfill your hardware order from our first shipment, in time for December 8th. You have our promise that as Europe's leading video game specialist we will be working very closely with Nintendo to secure you a unit before Christmas. Please rest assured that we will dispatch Wii to our customers on a strictly first-come, first-served basis, dependent on when orders were placed. The Wii hardware shortage will of course affect all retailers, so we would advise that you keep your order active in our queue? There is no risk, as we will not take funds until your order is being prepared for despatch- your best chance of getting a Wii remains with GAME. We will of course keep you updated with any change to the situation as and when we hear more from Nintendo. We are hopeful that we will be able to provide you with good news in the near future! Kind regards, The Team, GAME".

Gamestation are still taking pre-orders. I went to them in Midlands, and I asked bout the play thing, and they said a lot of companies will take over their allocated amount of pre-orders because they just "hope" they will get the 2nd phase of the units and it's 50/50. The customers will be like "ah I'll wait" but Gamestation are still taking pre-orders because they have an "agreement" with Nintendo. They are the only big chained game shop that still sell GC, stock their games, controllers and all the old Nintendo stuff.

It all sucks! Preordered mine, from woolworths, which has led me to believe it would have been delivered today (8th). However got email to say there were stock shortages within in the entire UK! But Nintendo has assured them there will be more stocks before xmas, who do you believe?

Read the bbc news website! Seems a little more promising for people who have preordered. Think this is all a publicity stunt! (if I could spell it! Lol).

Well I have to say that I am pretty disappointed with play.com, I am a regular customer and praise them to the hilt. However I pre-ordered my Wii on the 17th of September, heard on the net that a few people had emails to say that they would not receive there Wii, until after xmas but I had never had an email so assumed (wrongly) that no news was good news, received an e-mail to say that my game I had ordered at the same time as my Wii was dispatched, I thought that perhaps they should have said console as well so I phoned them, they laughed and said that there was no way I would be seeing one before the end of Jan, that there pre-order quote had been filled on the 1st day (the 15th) kinda makes you wonder why they proceeded to take more than they could handle, and why they could not have e-mailed me and everyone else to say that they would be unable to fulfill their pre-orders and gave people a chance to pre-order elsewhere.

GAME is a brand I distrust due to their extortionate prices "a 1p difference on Burnout 3 preowned and brand new?" recently I've been taking my business to Gamestation, and this is where I pre-ordered my Wii, although I'm still waiting for it to arrive, I'm the 3rd in queue now, the staff are exteremely helpful over the phone and understand my fustrations, they're doing all they can to get some Wii's in and to get me informed when it is ready. I'm quite satisfied with the service they offer, and their low prices on titles on all formats. I'll never step foot again in a GAME store until their prices are lowered "and maybe selling second hand PC games".
