Famicom put to rest
Over twenty years ago, Nintendo brought out the Famicom in Japan, later known as the NES across the rest of the world.
To this day, Big N has been servicing and repairing the aging machine. Unfortunately due to diminishing stocks of spare parts, they've decided to call it a day. Spokesperson Ken Toyoda commented:
"Some say it's sad Famicom is leaving and players are nostalgic, but Nintendo's saga has not ended. We want people to enjoy the Wii now".
You've still got to admire Nintendo's dedication to the product.

Oh Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling, from glen to glen. Nintendo "Famicom" Entertainment System 1983-2007. "A proud great-great grandfather". Rest in peace great one.

20 years behind a product! That's dedication to the Nth degree. RIP to the console I never knew.

*sob* Oh well. Another goodbye to another great console. And possibly hello to a new one?
WIIPING FOR WII
Can't they make some NES games on virtual channel that aren't really on the NES, that would also give future gamers to practice their game creating skills? That would be cool, but this update made my heart break. Long live NES.
Aeth
Well it won't be forgotten, many of it's games are being put on the Virtual Console.

Now that Nintendo has stopped servicing their Famicom, which probably means that they've stopped with the NES as well, the people will probably take it upon themselves to help out the nostalgic. Somehow.

There'll probably be third-party spare parts on ebay for a few years, or you can get that third-party system that plays NES and SNES. Or just start emulating with your Wii, PC, PSP, or whatever else you have hanging around the house. I'm sure toasters could emulate NES now.
Gonzo
My friend still has this system. So I can play it anyway. I love NBA Jam.

When I went to Japan, I bought a super famicom (Japanese SNES). It's awesome and plays American games. I'm surprised they actually had service until now. It's an old console.

Wii shall take the nex-gen crown for its ancestor.
white mog
Gonzo, NBA Jam is on SNES, not Famicom (NES).

20 years of repairing a console? I doubt it was because of stocks or anything like that, they probably just got tired of it. Still, we can't really feel bad or anything. The NES still has so many memories tied to it that we'll always have: Spy VS Spy, the Mario theme, The Legend of Zelda, Duckhunt, there's really a never-ending list of memories.

Hopefully wiiware will let some people make pixely, NES-style games for all to enjoy.

Some third-party company should try servicing them.
