GameSpy have announced a partnership with Nintendo whereby they'll provide their online multiplayer technology to publishers who make games for Wii.
This means publishers will be able to make use of features like friend rosters, comprehensive rankings and more advanced match finding / creating. Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo commented:
"This partnership will expand our wireless community of players on Nintendo Wi-Fi. Millions of Nintendo DS users have already logged on using GameSpy's technology, and now Wii owners will be able to do the same in a fun and easy-to-use environment".
It's good to see the online side of Wii is taking steps forward. Pokemon Battle Revolution will be Wii's first online game in the US, due for release on June the 25th.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

I was getting a little worried about Nintendo's online since they were so hush hush.

Well this is good news but Pokemon could die a slow death as far as I'm concerned.

This is sweet, Gamespy partnering with Nintendo should start to stomp on XBOX Live. As long as game developers make full use of it. Hey ya think they'll allow you to message to someone else for their Wii friend code or something?

Which means ssbb will be after june.

I think people need to get off their friends code high horse. 99% of online games will have chat rooms or voice chat so its common sense you just exchange codes then play. I really don't see any problem whatsoever. Add to that the chat and message and mii community where you can also exchange codes, people need to stop getting sucked into anti Nintendo journalism.

No I hate gamespy, they messed up the dawn of war online so much.

Oh, I see. So Nintendo had their little plans hidden all along. Why do they have to keep everything a secret?

Well it's about time they took some steps forward in the Nintendo Wi-Fi.

I hope gamespy doen't use the friend codes thing because I hate it! But I do hope that gamespy will make some wi-fi Wii games this year in spite of the fact that Nintendo said that we won't see any online Wii games this year. But they said "probably" so I hope there is a chance.

We are truly at the dawn of the Wii. I think next year we will look back at the first generation Wii capabilities and chuckle.

Good news, but Gamespy still sucks.
