At the recent Games Developers Conference, Shigeru Miyamoto gave a lengthy and entertaining keynote speech. In part of it, he stated the games world is becoming too gritty.
"I always want that first reaction of emotion, to be positive - to give a sense of satisfaction, glee. Certain obstacles may temporarily raise feelings of suspense, competition, even frustration. But we always want that final result, that final emotion, to be a positive one".
Shigsy feels that too many cheap sequels and games based on revenge killings have allowed the industry to be seen in a negative light.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

I would like some joyful games too but please let's see some nitty gritty hardcore shooters on the Wii, they have a lot of potential. Always wanted to say nitty gritty.

Good point and everything, but I think that's what gives Nintendo its "kiddie" image. Usually only dumbasses (PS3 fans) give Nintendo this quick-to-judge conclusion, but every once in a while they're right about Nintendo making childish games (Disney games). So what I'm trying to say basically is that Nintendo should make joyful games that aren't related to Disney and can be fun for all ages. Warioware is an excellent example.

For real. One reason why Halo is a great shooter is those crazy Covenant voices and remarks. After I beat the first Flood level in Halo 1, I was happy to see the Covenant again. They were like friends compared to the Flood.

I think that all shigsy needs to do is let mickey mouse into brawl. I mean, who wouldn't be happy if they were throwing mickey mouse off a ledge?

And that is why we should have more mario games on the market.

It would be nice to have at least one bloodbath or fragfest on the Wii. Maybe there might be blood and fatalities in SSBB.

Very true. Think about Grand Theft Auto, and that man that actually did it in real life. However though, without shooters, you will lose some of the fun.
Gonzo said:
Yea, that's true, but maybe some people don't really like the kiddie games like Master Foot said. Really the only violent game I want is GTA. I also want WWE games. Other than that, I'll stick to sport games.

I think the Nintendo demographic has greatly expanded with the release of the Wii. A larger audience requires a larger game library, so while I agree with Miyamoto in the fact that developers should focus on more upbeat games, they should also come out and start slightly more serious games on the Wii. C'mon, where's the Gears of War: Wii Addition I've been waiting for?

Once again, the master speaks. I think the whole gritty theme in video games was designed to give a greater sense of realism, which we now can abandon (holding a Wiimote). I believe the wii's capabilities allow for even extremely cartoony games or non-realistic feeling games to give gamers what they want, for example Wii Sports. The thing is, video game developers who can't come up with a good enough storyline, or original enough control and sound, just stick a whole bunch of violence and extreme images in hopes the game MAY make a profit (Example, the Grand theft Auto series, no offense, but those games aren't really fun, they're just disturbing). Essentially, what Mr Nintendo is saying, is that the world would be a better place if we all just have fun. You CAN have realism and happiness. It's called Wii. GO SHIGERU!

You don't have to have a bloodbath to have a great shooter. Goldeneye rocked!

'Hey' has a good point about Nintendo's expanded demographic. Wii is obviously selling well but the Wii will be marginally successful if it does not have a variety of genres that appeal to different gamers. To LloydIrving's post, GTA is fun! That is until the story ends. I agree with Shigsy to some extent but there are times when I would like to cause mayhem.

When you play a game like GTA or destroy all humans, I think often you're looking for some mayhem that you can't get in say FF games. However, for a good story and satisfying gameplay (yunalesca/ultima weapon/sephiroth/dark aeons, baby!) an rpg might be a much better fit. What I'm saying is, not every gamer has to like a particular genre all the time, not every Wii game has to be violent, and anyone who hasn't played FFVII or twilight princess is about to fall over dead from lack of awesomeness.

I've always thought of myself as a peaceful person who hates bad sequels. So I would completely agree with him. Unfortunately for the world, it's that thinking that put the GameCube in last place. But I would be happy with no violence.
