Naughty Dogs find a penny

Naughty Dogs find a penny

Another indie developer called Steel Penny Games has gotten its WiiWare license and is at work on a puzzle game called "Bruiser & Scratch in Case of the Puzzling Paw".

The studio is organized by Jason Hughes and Andrew Gilmour, formerly of Naughty Dog games. Naughty Dog were responsible for the first three Crash Bandicoot games, when Crash was apparently in his heyday. Unfortunately the models for Bruiser & Scratch look like they're from that era too:

Yeeeeesh.

Steel Penny are excited to be working on WiiWare, Hughes commented:

"I am impressed with the egalitarian approach Nintendo has taken toward WiiWare developers. It allows the risk burden to shift back onto the creative developers".

Egalitarian hey, you don't hear that every day. Good luck Steel Penny.

Looks like a game that will be a fad, much like Crash. I remember Crash, I was only 4 back then though.

Wow. Just wow.

I hope those characters are in VERY early development. Ug-leee.

Sounds cheap, but cool to see on Wii Ware.

I couldn't care less about how ugly the character models look. A good game is a good game: fun to play! I loved the old Crash games when I was younger, and pop them in from time to time.

Those characters could be unattractive and star in a great game. But, I wouldn't expect a huge fanbase or anything. Like when people say the Wii is aimed for 'non-gamers', do you think non-gamers would research the games before they buy? You know, check what scores it got online and stuff? Covers and characters are important in that case. It could effect the sales, in turn no sequels or continuity of any sort. Just a standalone game.

Dude, how do you get a wiiware contract? Nintendo won't allow in devs unless they use a certain size building, with cubicles, and some other crap, I want to release games on wiiware. They need to be nice to us poor indie devs, like microsoft.

Yep, Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3 were good Sonic and Mario rip-offs. And I do mean that quite seriously. Those were good games, but blatant knock-offs. Also, I don't expect anything too high of this game.

Sounds like it could be a mystery title, so I'm up for a bit of experimentation with this title. I wish that the characters looked a bit less clich?.
