Suda 51 disappointed with Wii

Speaking with CVG, Goichi Suda the head of Grasshopper Studios has expressed some dismay regarding how the Wii has turned out so far.

Their latest game No More Heroes was released last month in Japan, but despite good reviews has failed to achieve good sales.

"Whilst the sales weren't as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren't selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn't just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan".

"I am very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn't expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected".

Unfortunately most core gamers would agree that the Wii does have a disproportionately high percentage of casual and/or crap games, albeit with some diamonds in the rough. Hopefully this will change this year with more quality releases coming out.

No More Heroes is all set for a US release in five days, on January 22nd.

Can Suda explain resident evil 4 sales? Can he explain res evil Wii sales? Can he explain how all hardcore gamers games like galaxy and prime 3 sold and still sell so well? Sour grapes. No more hereos should be hyped and advertised just as resident evil 4 was, or mario & sonic olympics was by sega. The game will sell better in usa and europe so what's his problem.

I'm a bit disappointed with the amount of Triple-A titles on the Wii as well. Hopefully sales of No More Heroes will skyrocket when it gets released in other regions. Right?

So true. The Wii has so many causal games that it drives away developers from making hardcore games and makes the system look like crap almost. Thank you Suda for Making NMH a true hardcore game and supporting us hardcore gamers on the Wii. You're a true game developer. And please Nintendo market the Wii towards hardcore gamers more.

Nintendo really needs to set some quality control again on their titles and more/better advertising for third party.

This will change. Many games that aren't Nintendo will make their fantastic debut this year. For example: de Blob.

Japan has been a casual gaming world since DS, but here it could be different, it's highly anticipated here.

AGH. No More Heroes is only the best looking game on the Wii. I know SO MANY hardcore gamers with a Wii, I am suprised that more don't. Also, Suda 51 captured and warped my mind with Killer7, so there's no reason his new game isn't as good. Darn. I think his company needs good sales to grow.

I'm disappointed with you suda 51.

I bet it'll do better in the US.

Why is it surprising that only Nintendo games are selling well when it's the Nintendo games that are the best made? And, even though casual gaming is increasing, the highest percentage of Wii owners are traditional gamers, playing games like "Twilight Princess" and other non-casual titles. Unless the casual titles appeal to the hardcore, the sales are still going to be lackluster.

Aww it's so sad. Really, if it continues this way good, developers will drop the Wii. It's Nintendo's fault for only making casual and non-hardcore games, with the exception of Zelda, (Mario Galaxy was so not hardcore, it was WAY too easy).

Mike
We can't let this happen again! Everyone buy buy buy No More Heroes.

Pika
Don't worry we're spreading the word everywhere to try and help it sell.

Wiimaster, you are absolutely right. We should make a petition to Nintendo that requests them to start making hardcore games or, at least, encourage other developpers to make some. And Twilight Princess is overrated. Please, let's hope the sales skyrocket. I'd even buy it over SSBB if it would help. Go Suda51.

What Suda says is true. Though the Nintendo is selling amazingly well, the games on the other hand are not. Sure we have our main Nintendo franchises (which are all hardcore, INCLUDING Mario bros!) but third party support isn't at it's best. Now there are exceptions to the rule for example, moh heroes 2, guitar hero 3, res4, and res umbrella chronicles. But none of those are Nintendo quality. Not saying they aren't great games, they just do not push the system as Nintendo tends to do. Developers are in a lose lose situation at the moment because it seems as if no matter how good the game will be, it will sell more on ps3 or 360. Can you blame them? Nintendo doesn't really market there games. At least not their hardcore titles. But that doesn't mean developers should give up. The Wii is a very capable system. The only console I own from this generation, and by far my favorite. No more heroes will be another game I will add to my collection, not only because I've wanted for quite some while, but because it's the hardcore gamers duty to support the games that need to be made (sorry for the rant). Viva La Wii.

Get in line Suda.

No More Heroes kicks ass. I played it last night, blew my mind.
