R.O.B. wants a piece of you

R.O.B. wants a piece of you

We're taking a look at R.O.B. and his/its moves today for the Super Smash Bros Brawl update from Sakurai's Dojo.

R.O.B. stands for Robotic Operating Buddy, and he originates from the old time NES days.

Unlock R.O.B.

  • Play 160 brawls
  • Get 250 different trophies
  • Get R.O.B. to join your party in The Subspace Emissary

Hey this is new.

Standard special move: Robo Beam
This fast laser shot is one of your key moves playing as R.O.B.. It can go through opponents, and you can change the angle of fire, which means you can bounce it off walls. After firing it you have to wait before it's usable again though. If you don't use it for a while it'll become a Super Robo Beam.


This might sting a little.

Ahh, sweet relief.

Side special move: Arm Rotor
Pressing the button continuously you can build up the power of this spinning move. It can also reflect projectiles.

Up special move: Robo Burner
Using boosters, R.O.B. can take to the air using this move. Fuel is limited unfortunately, so this won't last forever, but each time you land your tank gets filled again.

Many fragments. Some large, some small.

Down special move: Gyro
The Gyro item can be powered up and thrown. Once charged up it's pretty strong, other fighters can also pick it up and make use of it though.

Great Johnny 5 reference! How can you look at R.O.B and not think of Johnny 5 (well you can if you've never seen Short Circuit)? You forgot to mention that you can tell if he's ready to use his laser again when the light on his head begins to glow.

They are announcing the characters in order of the number of brawls needed to unlock them. Observe: Ness (5) Brawls, Marth (10), Luigi (22), Falco (50), Captain Falcon (70), Lucario (100), R.O.B. (160).

Short Circuit references rule. I'm so glad to live in the state it was filmed. Yes I'm maining this bot. Hope Ray is playable in SSB4 though. He's before Jiggly because she's an optional unlockable like Wolf and Toon Link. I'm predicting my 8-bit warrior would be next.

Ya, it is strange that we get Lucario and R.O.B. before Jigglypuff, but I think they release them based on how many brawls you need to play to unlock them. That means that the more brawls you have to play to unlock them, the later they are announced. If I'm right, that means that Ganondorf is going to be announced next! Probably after the game releases in North America (or for me: CANADA!).

Who ever said R.O.B is a bad character obviously had no clue what he was talking about. He seems like a great character and is a definite maybe as one of my characters.

GRRR! I'm still angered it's probably this character's fault if Bowser Jr isn't in. However this is a good non-Pokemon replacement for Lamechu. I mean Pichu.
