USB Wi-Fi connector discontinued

USB Wi-Fi connector discontinued

Hardware news. According to the official Nintendo store, the USB Wi-Fi Connector (pictured) has been discontinued until further notice. No reasons are given.

I had one of these a year or so back and it wasn't very reliable anyway. Better off with a wireless router.

I have one, and use it. I couldn't afford a new router. So, does this mean they don't sell it any more? Looks like I'm in the clear.

Well, that's not the case for me; my wireless router is horrible and anything is better than using it. I think I might get one of these if they decide to use it again, just to test it out.

Yeah, they were pretty lame. They probably didn't get them any money at all really, so the production of it was pointless. Understandable.

That's so lame. Ughh, seriously. Wireless routers cost so much. How wasn't this reliable?

I just realized. Monday is the one year anniversary of the Wii. I hope Masahiro Sakurai releases something really cool.

I use this. I don't use it very often, but it's sufficient enough for ds online games and downloading Wii vc. I'm not sure about Wii online gaming, but I'd think that it wouldn't work very well.

These things suck in my opinion. Mine worked like twice then just crapped out. Plus you need to have your pc turned on anytime you want to use it.

I really liked the Wi-Fi USB Connector but my ISP did not. The connector had an extremely fast connection speed, mostly due to its proximity to the Wii--and better yet it never locked up and dropped my computer's internet connection as wireless routers frequently do. However, there was a significant glitch with the WiFi connector which caused it to act as a "rogue router" where it reassigned IP addresses for everyone in my apartment building network, causing mass chaos for everyone except for me. My ISP blocked my internet connection for over a week because of the WiFi connector and wouldn't turn it back on until I bought a router and stopped using the connector.

Well I wanted one for Christmas, but I guess it's a crap shoot. Thanks for the notice.

So wait, how do you play games such as Mario Strikers Charged or Mario Kart DS WITHOUT a wi-fi connector? I thought you had to have one in order to play Wi-Fi enabled games, that makes sense. So there is another mode all along? How do you get online without the wi-fi?

I liked these, I've had mine for a long time.

I bought one of these and it didn't even work! I even brought the tv right next to the computer and it didn't work! It might have been a firewall on my computer, but they should put somewhere on the packaging even just in small print "not compatible with some firewalls". I had to return it after that.

No skin off my nose. They were apparently unreliable most of the time anyway. Besides, a large majority of humanity have all gone wireless.

Wiimsicle, the Wii will easily connect to any wireless router. If you don't have a wireless router, you can buy an adapter that connects to a Wii USB port to connect straight to your modem/high speed wall jack.

Well mine is the original. But I don't use it anymore. It was good before I got my Wii.

I have a wireless router so I don't give a care about this discontinuation.

I have one, and I use it all the time. I use it to show off my superior Tetris skills online, to frag my fellow humans on Medal of honor heroes 2 (32 players online), and I use it to download VC games. Yes it's that great of a thing!

I own one, it works great. The only time it doesn't work is like once a month.

I have used mine every day for almost a year now. Works great for me. Madden 08 and MOH Heroes 2, both work great online via the USB. Sorry to see it go.

Bought one a few weeks ago and it worked fine. I downloaded a few VC games and was happy with the 45' range through 2 walls.

I had some serious issues trying to make it work properly. Anyway somehow I did it and it works perfectly for me now. I think it was discontinued for those 'testicle cancer' claims.

So what they discontinued usb, although router is a bit harder to set up it's still better. I don't really care for usb since it only works with xp without a patch. I use my 2wire router for wifi on a couple games but my most liked game is bleach dark souls and naruto path of the ninja 2. I don't know what I'd do without a wifi compatible router. I don't think ds would be really worth it unless you're one for on the go gaming, but wifi changes a lot and makes it worth having.
