At the Tokyo press conference Nintendo gave more details on the Virtual Console. All sales for the VC are done online electronically. Players do this using Wii 'point cards' that can be topped up in game stores. It's currently unknown whether paying directly with a credit card is an option.
Prices are kept to a minimum because there's nothing physical to consider, the games are downloaded to your SD card. 2,000 points will cost $20 USD. The price breakdown for each type of game works like this:
There will be a starting line-up of 30 games, with around 10 more becoming available every month. Over 24 developers are supplying games for the Virtual Console, to see who they are check out the image below.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

I like the idea of the points card, just not the limited way of refilling it. But still w00t. Good system in my opinion.

Square enix? That means that Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and the Final Fantasies are more than likely.

So that works out to be $5 just for a nes game. That's a lot more expensive than I would have imagined. I like the idea of the wii "card" and wii "points".

That's helpful news.

10 bucks for a n64 game? That's crazy! I'll just use my own n64.

What about Genesis/Megadrive and TurboGraffix16?

I think I missed something here, when did Bandai and Namco merge?

Uhuhoh! These prices are all disappointing. What happened to that "affordability" thing?

I'm not overjoyed about the prices either. I wouldn't pay $8 for many SNES games, maybe SF2 or Smash Tennis if they were playable online. I never owned an N64 though so I will catch up with a few of those games to see what I missed.

I've sold Nes games at my yard sale for a buck each. The Snes were $2 and the n64 were $3. Those are fair enough prices for 20 year old games.

A little pricier than I expected, but great if you're talking about some true classics.

Online Multiplayer should be a must for these prices! I'm glad to see that Square-Enix is supporting VC. Super Bomberman 5 online is DEFINITELY going to be the hot ticket. Package deal will boost VC sales.
