DVD Wii special edition
Nintendo have confirmed that a special version of the Wii capable of DVD playback will be released during 2007. This is exclusive to Japan though, there are no plans to bring it to Europe or the US. But since everyone and his dog owns a DVD player these days it's unlikely to be a big deal.

Although everyone owns a DVD player, it does not hurt to have another.

That's kind of unfair, although it would shut up the people who complain about the Wii not playing DVDs. It might be another bad move to keep DVD away from the US though.
Killer Ape
I'm not waiting until 2007 to get a Wii with dvd playback in it. Plus I already got 2 dvd players in my house.
Jrapocalypse
I would only get one if it was produced in limited numbers otherwise it won't be worth squatt. I have 3 dvd players as it is and I don't need any more.
tabsina
It hurts because it makes it more expensive.

Awesome!

Yeah, my DVD players absolutely SUCK, and it's another reason to buy the wii, so I'm fine with this.
DragonFoxCoon
Sort of expected this.

This ranks a 10 out of 10 on the who cares meter for me. Got a DVD player built into my TV (not that great though). Also have a comp with a dvd drive, so does the family comp and my bro's computer.

I heard about this and it annoyed me somewhat. It is almost as if they have rushed the console out without including features that they clearly want to have! I've heard rumours that it is an add-on (maybe like the Xbox had). If it is a whole new model of the Wii I will feel inferior to newer owners (n00bs).
Crazy NZ Wii Guy
I'm not worried about DVD playback, that's what my DVD players for, all I care about is getting my hands on a Wii. Also I realy hope the backwards compatibility isn't like stupid XBox where only certain games are supported because I don't own a gamecube and have been buying up my favorite games for it. You guys in the US get it before we do, that sucks. I really want to Wii now.

Who cares but imagine this panasonic Q2 dvd/bluray player, hd dvd player dvd and panasonic dvdram recorders and a built in wii
bye bye ps3 yip yip yip.
Wii Monster
Man, I am not going to wait another year for that! I have a DVD in my room and two others in my house! I mean, it is cool but, who doesn't have a DVD player?
Epsilon
A part of me hopes this isn't true because that means a higher price but a part hopes it is to save space. Although, it would be perfect if all it is is an add-on and not integrated into the system, like the Game Boy Player.
mieie
I have 4 DVD players already so who cares.
blue_caboose
I own 8 different DVD players in several different forms, I'm not too worried about not having another one.

Who cares about the dvd features. For one, playing dvd's on gaming systems isn't good for the system, since it wears out the laser. For two, if you don't have a dvd player, go to wal-mart or something and get one for like 20-30 dollars. For three, there are new dvd formats out. Which one of them will become the new norm? Such as blu-ray or hd-dvd.
Gonzo
Our house has two DVD players and a Ps2 so there is no need for a DVD player on my Wii.
