Wii Opera on December 22

Wii Opera on December 22

Great news for would-be wii web surfers. The Opera browsing software will be available for download in 3 days time on December the 22nd. Technically it's a beta version, so further updates will likely be required as time goes on.

The browser is optimized for TV usage and supports things like Flash. Text input is done using an on-screen keyboard.

Opera on the Wii will be free until June 2007, after which it will cost 500 of your Wii points to get.

YES! Been waiting to check this out. And 500 is not bad at all. I was thinking it would be at least 1000.

Awesome! Maybe now they can have online games sooner than expected? That would be the coolest.

I still don't understand why you'd use a home console to access internet rather than your computer. I can understand with DS, because it's for checking when you're not at home. But I just see the Wii web browser as pointless, because it's actually harder to use than a computer.

It probably wouldn't tank like Microsoft's WebTV because Nintendo is behind it. Are the updates going to be free for the people who download it for free? That's something to think about.

I wish you could watch videos on the browser. I have several suggestions for the final version. Nintendo: LISTEN UP! I really think that playing videos on the Wii from the internet is important. How many times have you watched a decent quality music video or tv show on your PC that you wished you could be watching on a TV screen? Ex: Fox broadcasts episodes of its shows on Myspace but the Wii can't even view Fox's homepage. Some kind of ITunes compatibility would be nice too, although probably impossible at this point. Imagine watching your Itunes videos on your Wii (since you can't watch them on anything except for an Ipod or Itunes now).

Hey guys! How do I get Opera for the Wii? I assumed it would just present itself when I connected to the internet or be available through the store but I can't find it or links to it. I am puzzled.
