Nintendo of America's Perrin Kaplan stated in an interview that the Wii was region-free and without restrictions, much like its handheld forerunner the DS. Third party publishers will have access to a region lock if they choose, but Nintendo won't be using it for any of their games.

Awesome! I hated the whole regional/worldwide thing on DS because everyone was playing regional and I couldn't get anyone to play on worldwide.
