Wii development kit as low as $1700
Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata previously stated that the Wii development kit would cost less than $2000. This was great news, offering independent developers a chance to make games on the Wii without spending a fortune.
In a recent briefing Satoru Iwata has gone further still and claimed the kit would now cost as low as $1732 USD. The first picture of the kit can be seen below.

This should mean a whole heap of fun little downloadable games. Hope it's regulated well enough to keep out the REALLY bad games though.

Wait does that mean it costs 1732 for the console for customers and plain people? I thought it was gonna be like 500 bucks or less. I keep getting different info, can someone clear this up for me?

At the same time, though - the devkit is to develop games for use with Wii hardware. So as far as downloadable games go, people could make RPG's, SNES style, and get 'em on the virtual console, eh?
Still, I'm excited that a devkit is within my price range, for once, being a solo indie gamedev :)

hiiiwii - No, the SDK costs 1732 (and is for developers only) while the console (for plain people :P) will be MUCH cheaper.

HiiWii, they say the Wii will most likely cost around $150 to $200. It will be less than the 360 and PS3.

I'd love to get one of these. I make games and it would be good to make Wii games. Although I reckon that it would be hard.
