Ever wondered what other ideas Nintendo had to revolutionize game control as we know it? A Japanese magazine called "Nikkei Business" recently showed in image of several prototypes which were conceived along the way.

Earlier Wiimote ideas.
It seems if someone had their way we'd be throwing an orange frisbee around right now. Overruled!

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

Thank god they chose the Wiimote, these other ideas look crappy besides the one in the top left.

Who would want to play with orange thing? But Nintendo would make it fun.
theDancingPenguin said:
What is the purpose of the orange thing in the middle?
Econo said:
They're all cool but I don't know how some of them would work.

Holy crap Nintendo. Thank you.

The far right bottom one is just a Wavebird gone wild.
ganondorfrules said:
Well the one to the left of the frisbee pretty much looks like a wiimote already but the on the top right hand side that one is bizarre but it looks pretty cool.
Gummii Bear said:
If they didnt chose the wii-mote they should have chosen the one on the left or bottom right.
andre said:
Amen to not having those. What's up with the orange thing, what is that.

Why would a gamer that's playing Far Cry want to hold a preschool toy?
wiiiim said:
Thankfully they chose the wii-mote instead, people would be breaking their tv's by frisbies.

I think both of the black ones would have worked just as well as the Wii-mote, as for the other two, well.
Gonzo said:
Thank God that they choose the wiimote. That's the best. Who would want to use those other ones. Especially that big orange one. The only good one is the black one in the top left. The wiimote is better though!
Ja-Mez said:
If they set out the buttons like on the Wii mote, the top left remote would look awesome.
joe said:
I would not have a Wii if any of those controllers were the wiimotes.
Ekaj185 said:
I wouldn't want any of them. The black Wii mote has a D-pad on the bottom. That would hurt after a while.
LOZfan said:
There are two black Wiimotes, which one ekaj185?

I would take the star controller any day!

Those all look cool.

Hey, someone melted my Gamecube controller!

How would the frisbee one work anyway?!
quartzlcc said:
Top left looks of crap quality and stuff. Middle one, erm OKAY. Top right: The flip thingy is for having the D-Pad on one side and the analog pad on the other, so naturally, you can switch between. A clever idea. Has to be the best one on that image. Bottom right: Well, more clever than what PS3 and Xbox 360 did.
Killer Ape said:
The middle one looks like crap. How could you control that thing? The top left and the bottom right ones like cool and easy. The top right one is weird, but it could be a could be a good controller.
wiifan said:
I'm glad the wiimote was picked. The one on the bottom right looks like they were copying the gamecube controller. What makes them think we would play with a giant frisby? No wonder they chose the wiimote.
DragonFoxCoon said:
Imagine waving the star thing around? Or playing frisbee with it? Wow. I'm glad they rejected it; otherwise the Wii would've flopped just because of the controller.

It's all about innovation, they were experimenting. If you worked there people would have been sending you stuff all the time, they took some of the interesting one and built them and tried them out. It's all about the process of development. The Wiimote they decided on is damn sweet! But I want a metallic black one!
