Wii on Fortune Magazine cover

Wii on Fortune Magazine cover

An article in Fortune Magazine declares Wii as the winner of the current generation's console war. See the cover below:

The Wii has already won apparently.

The piece goes on to describe the main working pieces of the Wiimote and attempts to price them. They also say that Nintendo makes around $50 profit with each Wii console sold, so there's ample room for price drops in the future if needed.

"We are not competing against Sony or Microsoft. We are battling the indifference of people who have no interest in video games".

That was a quote from Shigsy himself, also printed.

Wii is awesome, 360 and ps3 are boring. To a point.

Awesome. Too bad the magazine doesn't exist here. I'd love to read the article. I wouldn't buy it, but I'd look for it in the library, or maybe waiting areas. Dentist, barber, you name it.

Wii has avenged the GameCube in the last Console War. Now you can truly rest in peace.

That's a catchy headline. Anyways, Nintendo is laughing all the way to the bank with Wii and they will for a long time. Sony created a strategy that will have them losing money for years to come, so I would not expect the PSN to be free for much longer. Xbox Live has become the quintessential online infrastructure for consoles so I will not expect 360 to die anytime soon. For a big shiny 10 pound box, PS3 is not worth its weight.

Somehow I'm doubting that Shigsy actually meant that. It's an attempt to make Nintendo sound better in their arse-kicking, nothing more.

Raise your hand whomever is interested in watching Solid Snake's nose hairs. Three? Two? That's why Wii rocks.

It certainly seems that way and I like the approach Nintendo management is taking by down playing it all which is the exact opposite of what Sony Management is doing. Overall it seems that Nintendo's many years of experience in the gaming industry and understanding its customer base is key. Succession of the high end and core gamer market to both Sony and MS was a brilliant stroke of business strategy. The core market is really a small niche of gamers with only these things in mind- Graphics, graphics and more graphics. Don't get me wrong graphics play an important part of a system and I as a core (X360) gamer love them but I after playing the Wii see what I am also missing out on and that is Fun! See awesome graphics are great but if the game has no real game play what experience do I walk away with? But if the Game has okay graphics and awesome gameplay which equals fun I walk away with the experience of "boy I can't wait to do that again!" and "Lets see how I can do it a bit differently to get further". Good gameplay always beats fancy graphics hands down, kudos to the Big N for seeing that.

Isn't it a sign of how much Nintendo rocks that they make sell their console for the cheapest and still make the most profit on each unit sold.

Yeah, Shigsy. I think winning over non-gamers would be more satisfying than just beating MS and Sony.

Wii. Play Together, and kick Sony's sorry ass together. I'm loving the attention, but isn't it a bit early to judge the winner right now? I mean, you never know, Sony could start paying people to buy PoS3's from THEM.

Nice, Shigsy. Nice. I heard Sony and Microsoft are LOSING money for every console they sell, so they rely completely on game and internet sales. Sucks for them because they're only useful for DVD players and large hard drives. There's maybe 2 good games on the 360 and perhaps 1 good game on the PS3. Tsk tsk.

Not to mention shigeru's clever statement. If that is the case, Nintendo is seriously the most calm of the three companies. Wii won for good reasons and that's that. Heh heh Sony.

I've seen the Wii on many magazine covers. Everybody loves it! NO one shows love to the PS3. 360 gets some love, but no one beats the Wii.

As much as I LOVE the Wii, I really think it's too early to say who's won yet.

Nintendo cares about its customers. I accidentally left my $100 DS in the rain, sent it to Nintendo, got it repaired for $50.
