Wii wins next gen launch

According to a report by CNBC, up until Christmas day 1.8 million Wii consoles had been sold in the US. This is thought to be a conservative number, with other sources quoting over 2 million. PS3 limped in with only 750,000 units sold.

I wonder why? The ps3 is too expensive for not really gamers. The Wii attracts all youth and adults, the ps3 is for older teens only. They only have the money for the ps3. The Wii sold more because it is more innovative and less expensive and more fun/new idea.

PS3 sucks! I don't really mind the 360 though. Go Wii!

OUCH! Wii outsold PS3 more than 2:1. That has got to hurt. To top it off, Sony's stock is taking a beating. If BluRay tanks then there would be a lot of angry investors.

I mean what did you expect? Oh I wish I could see the looks on Sony's face. Does anyone know how this compares to the Xbox 360?

What do you think? Look at the price $600 to $250. I'm not surprised!

Only older teens have enough money for a PS3? PFFF HAAA! I think you're forgetting about some adults too. Yes, I would like to know how Xbox 360 did. This is a Wii site, if you're REALLY going to mention Sony, then why not Microsoft? They're the competition at the moment.

I'm very amazed. Well actually I knew Nintendo would win, but more than 2:1? Ouch all the playstation guys should be kicking themselves.

Nice to see common sense win, Nintendo's consoles are always better designed and more suited to the job in hand, but layman can't see it like Wii can. I.E analog sweetness, loading times etc, always guaranteed to be good on a Nintendo. But with ds and Wii the INNOVATIONS and FUN is much easier to see and feel. That along with an ipod generation level of cool, is only going to result in great sales and a new look to the gaming industry.

That's good, so far Wii is getting the attention it deserves unlike its poor older brother did Gamecube (R. I. P).

It's Sony's own fault for its: A) jacked up price; B) not having enough hardware available at launch; C) being overconfident with itself.

In terms of sales, apparently Microsoft shifted 2 million 360s in the "holiday season", while Ninty sold 1.8 million Wiis and Sony sold 750,000 PS3s. Interestingly, IGN report that in the US PS3s aren't as sold out as they used to be, so it does appear that the demand just isn't there for the ridiculously priced console. Even eBay prices for the PS3 are dropping, while for Wii people are still paying well over twice the RRP for them. Looks like Nintendo might have clawed itself back from the oblivion that it was teetering on the brink of!

Sony is crappy, you have to donate a kidney to pay for it, rip off. Wii forever.

I've come to the conclusion that at this point in the game (no pun intended) with all these next gens the graphics can only get clearer. That said, Nintendo was smart by looking into what the DS did to the PsP from a "playability"& "Quality of fun" standpoint and 2-3 years from now when the sales are 5 or 6-1 we'll say we were right all along.

I think the 360 and Wii can peacefully coexist. With the Wii still being better and all.
