Nintendo have let loose a new firmware update for Wii. It focuses on improvements to the menu interface and shopping channel.

The general feeling is that the menu is running faster too, so thumbs up!

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

Good to hear.

Awesome, it needed some work. I thought it was ok out of the box but needed a new touch.

Sweet. I was a little annoyed when the shop channel was down yesterday evening (I wanted to download Mario Kart because we're selling our N64), but this makes me happy.

Ahh, that's good to know.

Cool. I'm going to update it today. With the next update they should let you customize the Wii menu color interface. That would be cool. Or maybe include Wii menu themes with games like metroid 3: corruption.

Yay! I love the clock.

Sweet. I just went into the shopping channel to look about and it said I have a update for a few of MY OWN VC games. All we need now is the photo channel to display some of our pics.

Also, when you insert or eject a disc, the Wii slot glows blue for a bit. The pattern as to which the disc slot glows when you get a message or data has changed and finally the Wii message board goes blue when you get a message.

Plus you didn't mention the best improvement yet. When you put a disc in or eject it the Wii lights up. How cool is that.

When is this going to happen?

For a company that swore off online capabilities a few years back, Nintendo sure has a head for this stuff.

I kind of liked the yellow envelope better.

Just noticed: the sexy blue light that goes on when you get a message blinks different now. It starts at dim to brighter and does like three fast blinks.

The own. I really need that adapter for the Wii so it can connect to the internet now. I was going to wait until Brawl, but this is urgent now.

How do you update the firmware?
Wiipaw said:
Sigh. Someone answer Rob's question, please. It's too complicated to answer for me. Anyway, it seems that the more updates my Wii gets, the more I love it.

From the main Wii Menu you go to the Options, and choose Wii Settings. It's on screen number 2 or 3, choose Wii Update. That's the way I remember it anyway. It's not too hard to find.

I hate the clock. It's way too big and bulky. I hope they fix that at some point.
Zelda-dude said:
Nothing much, but it's a nice feature. Another thing is that when you start a channel, the blue light flashes.
The Yoshi Guy said:
You get this update automatically with Super Mario Galaxy so Mailtoad can send you mail on your Wii.

How to display my current Wii firmware version?
