The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was, no surprise, as fun as they come. EA has lately been doing a good job on movie games, and Lord of the Rings is no exception. If you get this game, you will NOT be upset with it (unless you get stuck on the King of the Dead level).
The main style of gameplay in the game is action/adventure (I know, I thought it'd be a simulation too!). Attacks mainly consist of combos and to kill an enemy you usually knock them down and stab them. Then there are the bosses which aren't too unique but nonetheless fun to kill.
Questionably, parts of the environment are a bit off. For example, in Cirith Ungol near the end of the level, you find a ballista belonging to the baddies that is pointing at a tower ALSO belonging to the baddies. Uh-oh. Otherwise, the environments and gameplay are excellent.
The game splits up three ways, a path for each set of characters (one for Gandalf, one for Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, and one for Sam). Each level is reasonably difficult in its own way and makes the game last longer, and better.
Cooperative mode also gives the game good taste seeing to it that cooperation consists throughout the trilogy. The graphics for this game are pretty good for the mid-GCN era. Slow motion was used beautifully, emotions changed appropriately during the game, and the textures were amazing. Of course for the Wii these wouldn't be so hot, especially if you compared this with something like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
The sound was amazing. The actors in the movies went out of their ways to put reviews and voices into this game and they brought it to life. Dialog that wasn't in the movie actually fit into the book, which was a rare bonus to see in a game. The music- oh, the music was just as incredible as in the movies and still got to me the way it did in the movies. This game is worth getting, especially if you are a Lord of the Rings fan. If not, try it out; you might have some fun with it yet.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).
