Ackk Studio's Y2K Coming to the Wii U's eShop

More JRPG love for Wii U owners

It's rough to be a JRPG fan this console generation, especially on the Wii U. Most notable RPGs seem to be going to either Microsoft or Sony's consoles or sticking to the older hardware for their larger install bases. This has left more niche developers and indie studios to fill the gap that would normally have been filled by companies like Square Enix and Atlus.

The latest developer to step up the plate is Ackk Studios with their title, Y2K. The game will follow the story of Alex Eggleston, an unemployed college graduate. When Alex takes to the Internet to look for information regarding a woman who died in a mysterious elevator accident he is led to a strange van know only as the "Death Cab". The Death Cab is a strange vehicle which roams the city and the surrounding area, but despite the mysterious deaths that surround it, no one seems to realize it as a threat.

Ackk Studios says that the game will feature and emotional and thought provoking story with quirky characters inspired by Earthbound and acclaimed Japanese author Hikari Murakami. The game is still very early in development and is not expected until late 2015 or early 2016. The early footage of the game, which can be found below, and voice acting from the likes of Brittany Lauda, Michele Knotz, and Chris Niosi, certainly makes Y2K look promising.
