It's become apparent that if you happen to have a HDTV and want to use it with Wii, you should invest in the component cable.
Using the standard composite (red/white/yellow) cable that ships with the Wii console will result in a much poorer picture quality.

Common sense really. Also aim for high quality cables like gold plated connectors and double insulated cables, things like that. Good tv to invest in are LG HD tvs, they have xd engine, an image upgrading tech that makes 480p look more 720p. It works, I've just got one. Resident Evil 4 looks very clear and detailed with xd engine switched on and I'm only using composite cables. My Wii shall be component cables, pal 576p resolution and xd engine switched on. Believe me it will look 720p. HD for free, sweet!

Will the picture be better if you don't have a HDTV? And use the 480p cable?
wii-mote dude said:
Okay. Glad I don't have an HDTV, then.
Brandon said:
For the folks grumbling about "it's not HD" well yes, technically 480p is Enhanced Definition- EDTV. However, there are few EDTVs sold, and arguably most people's idea of HDTV includes everything above SD. S-Video is a giant leap past composite, and component is even better. 480p, especially if you have a LCD, plasma, DLP or other display that is not CRT, will also eliminate those nasty deinterlacing artifacts that are too common on progressive displays. In short, get it. The real question is, when is Nintendo going to make it available? It should be available at launch, not later.

That's pretty cool.

Oh well I don't have an HDTV anyway.

Ok thanks that's good to know. I want the best picture possible.

How do you tell if you have HDTV or not? P.S I'm not an adult. I don't manage my house. Any answers please tell me.
Epsilon said:
Very true. I'm picking one up when it's available in stores. (Which unfortuanately is December 5 and not launch).
Owlboy said:
Most likely to keep the system cheap enough to produce and sell at a reasonable price.
cubboy101 said:
Lots of non-HDTVs do support progressive scan and component inputs, also 100hz screen refresh if you're playing 480i/576i. I'd still go for an RGB cable or a component as it supports better image and Wii's in-built deflicker does not work on composite, only RGB and component.
papre said:
It's annoying me that my tv's got only one component input. Out TiVo, in Wii.
Ozzyopolis said:
Good to know since I do happen to have a HDTV.
Milkman844 said:
Comp cables will only be available in brick-n-mortar stores on December 5th? That sucks. Looks like I'm going to have to play Zelda in low-def until then.
Zelda-dude said:
That's good to know, though it may cost some big $$. I only have a low-definition television.
ads said:
They are all out, but Nintendo says that stores will have more end November / early-mid December. 30 bucks, usually if your tv can have HDTV you should get them. The difference is crazy.
Zelda-dude said:
Thanks ads! I'll have to get one.

I can't even get a Wii until Dec 8th and now I have to buy extra cables as well. Sony started this craziness with crap cables bundled with consoles.

Does Australia have composite and component tv cables? Or S video? I only know of av.
Ken Joslin said:
I was wondering, will the European wiis come with RGB cables?
Kolorado said:
Do you need any special TV to use S-video? Or will my 4:3 16 incher do just fine to use this cable?

The Wii component cable is good for the HDTV to get the perfect picture.

I have a projector with a HDMI exit, could you recommend me some nice cables to connect my Wii to my projector with?
Dave said:
Does anyone know how to connect Wii to a TV that only has a cable TV input? This tv has no separate audio or video inputs. Thanks for any help.

You need an rf modulator.

How can I connect the Wii end of a component cable to another Wii cable? Basically my TV is plumbed inside the wall and I have a Wii component cable coming from it but want to move the Wii. I cannot re-cable so just want to extend the current cable. So basically need some sort of male/female connection? Can't find it anywhere?
Cindi said:
I am lost on the standard cable it is yellow, white, and red. Well I have the cable that has Red Blue Green then Red, White. Can anyone tell me what plugs where since the colors don't match. Thanks.
hazzmo said:
Cindi, your tv doesn't sound like it supports component inputs, only composite. Otherwise you'd be able to see red, green and blue inputs. Does anyone know if Wii supports HDMI?
Kent said:
Is there a Wii HD cable available which will reach both the TV (video) and the audio sound source (receiver)? The TV is about 3 feet from the receiver, and the normal HD cables (3 inputs for video, and 2 for audio) are not long enough to reach both.

My Wii from UK only shows a blight blue hue colur even on an LCD tv. Could it be the cable sent ie RYW. Do I need the 5 lead cable?
Peter said:
Can I install a Wii on a TV that is not hooked up with cable.
Parvin said:
Peter, what do you mean? If you want to put the Wii in another room to play it on a tv, you can easily do that by using your standard cables. It will work the same as the tv your using your Wii on already.

So basically I have to go spend more money on a console that will be obsolete in no time flat just to get a decent picture? Thanks Nintendo.
