Fifth Annual NES Marathon scheduled for November 8th

Fifth Annual NES Marathon scheduled for November 8th

More than 750 Games, 2 friends, and 1 great cause

The Nintendo Entertainment System celebrated its 25th anniversary in October 2010. At the time, no one in the online community seemed to have anything planned for the event and this frustrated Pat Contri.

Pat, know as Pat the NES Punk, is a content creator and an NES collector and enthusiast. After realizing that the beloved console anniversary was approaching, he contacted his friend Ian Ferguson to ask if he had any plans for the occasion. During this call, and a few others, the duo came up with the idea to stream themselves playing every single game in the NES library over a 24 hour period. The two were able to attach Child's Play as a charity and, despite a few hiccups, the marathon took place in October of that year. After 31 hours, the duo had played all but one NES game and raised nearly $8,000 for Child's Play.

The NES Marathon has continued each year, and has successfully raised more than $50,000 for both Child's Play and the Chidren's Miracle Network over four years. Each year, the marathon has set monetary goals that, once reached, would have them play certain rare or infamous NES games or release special content from other Internet personalities such as James Rolfe and Brentalfloss.

The upcoming fifth marathon will be broadcast on November 8th. Donations are live and are being handled with an Indiegogo campaign. Donations can start as low as $1 and various perks are available. Starting at $25 you can pick a game for the duo to play during the marathon. The more money you donate above $25 the longer they'll play the chosen game. At $250 you can become an official sponsor of the marathon. The sponsorship will entitle you to have your website's banner displayed on the marathon's website and have ten 30 second advertisements during the 24 hour event. For more information and other perks, check the marathon's Indiegogo page. All proceeds from the marathon will go to benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Further information for this year's marathon is available in the announcement video below. Children's Miracle Network is a great charity and one that has impacted my life. The NES Marathon is a great way to help support this fantastic charity and spend your weekend seeing old favorites and maybe even discovering something new.
