Wii chip shipped by IBM

Solid news for the upcoming Wii launch. IBM have confirmed that the chip inside the Wii is finished and has been shipping to Nintendo since July. Not only that but it has been shipping in high volumes.

The chip codenamed 'Broadway' is the central processing unit (CPU) of the Wii, basically the brain that runs the whole thing. When asked about the speed of the processor, Ron Martino said that it was 20% more power efficient than the Gekko chip in the Gamecube and that it performs "significantly better".

PS3 has long load times and a 4 generations old dual shock with no rumble. The only upgrade is graphics, so in real terms PS3 is a cool graphics PS1. Why would I buy a PS1? That's stupid, Wii is next gen. Isn't that clear to see? Silly Sony fanboys and their 16 bit d-pad based controls and long load times.

I agree, $1000 rip off here in Australia.

20% more power then Gekko chip, that's sad. If only they increased it by 200% then it will rip every next-gen console.

It's not 20% better, it is twenty percent more power efficient than the Gamecube.

Meaning it uses power better, but does not reflect how well it performs graphic wise. So my guess is that its a tad more than 20% better than the gekko chip.
