Some of the story for Super Mario Galaxy has been revealed.
A comet passes over the Mushroom Kingdom every 100 years and rains down magical stars and stardust. As Peach and the gang are enjoying the celebrations though, Bowser and his friends launch an attack. Mario tries to intervene but it all goes wrong and he ends up on a moon above. Good stuff hey.
The game will feature six major regions, split into 40 galaxies with 120 stars to collect in total. Some examples of galaxies are:

I was all excited about the story. Until we see that there are 120 stars to collect. Sound familiar? Can't there be a 3D Mario game without the Star/Shine collecting? Yeah, it's fun and all, but it's a used idea.

Geez, Nintendo needs new storylines. Every mario game, its always peach has been kidnapped by bowser. Three of my favorite characters mario luigi and yoshi need to team up. If you can play as yoshi, I hope he's rideable. Even better, maybe a new storyline includes luigi and yoshi getting kidnapped and you can switch between partners. Or maybe if you find a yoshi egg, mario and luigi both at the same time can ride yoshi. Just some thoughts.
