A classic! I had it on my NES but I lost it. I am so getting it on Wii! Never got to the last level.

I've beat the game and I love it. World 8-4 is a trick level, you need to know the secrets to win but once you get to bowser all you have to do is jump over him. Not that hard, this is the best selling game ever!

Back in the day I made over a million points without getting hit even in new game +. Now, I'm probably rusty. I hope that Nintendo gives the US the Lost Levels version soon.
I've been to the minus world and my cousin can beat the whole game in less than an hour without losing one life!

Yes Wii Freak it does. In fact, if you have played this game before, it has game files for certain people to play. For example, the owner gets the first file.

I have a question. I heard that they're going to release "Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels" on the VC. But how can they release that game by itself when you can only play it in Japan, on the GBA, or on "Super Mario All Stars"?
I saw a video on youtube that Mario was getting frustrated with Toad every time he beat Bowser, then Mario started doing mean things to Toad ha ha. If any of you want to see it it's called Super Mario Bros. Super Bloopers episode 2. See it, you'll laugh a lot.
This was the first game I ever played on a console. Loved it. I wonder if they have the secret never ending sea level you can get to in the first underground stage? If you're having a hard completing the game, I was the same. I never could complete this game until I found the trick to get unlimited lives in the third World (I think. It's been a long time since I played it). This will be the first VC game I'll get once I can get my hands on Wii.

It happens in certain games Toad. Like Sonic the Hedgehog & Crash Bandicoot for example.
Toad, a whole bunch of games have that, if you get touched you die.

This game still holds up today! I just hope they release super mario 2 (japan) aka the lost levels as well over here. It's out in Japan right now, and wouldn't exactly require much translating.
Ja-Mez, go to youtube, and search for super mario bros speed run. If you think under an hour is great, try 5 minutes.

How do you beat level 8-2? That huge ass jump? Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is it really just about being very accurate? Or is there a way?
Old School Super Mario is an awesome game on the Wii. As soon as I connected my Wii and I saw that I could purchase the "old school stuff" I was hooked. Even though as a kid I could beat the game easily, I am having a hard time getting past the hammer turtle at the end because I always seem to lose my fire power before I get there. Anyone know of another way? Also, I have found so many cheats for the game. It is awesome. Damn my GPA has suffered hardcore because of the Wii.
Anyone still wondering, you can save, just not in the general save files way. If you press home, and come back to the game, it will start where you left off, but you can restart by pressing "reset software" in the home menu. (this is kind of out there, but there's a video on youtube with someone beating it in under 1.5 minutes).
Not to brag or anything, but I beat the game without using warp tunnels. But I'm not that good, I watched a friend of mine beat it without losing a life.

Yea, 6 7 & 8 are pretty easy to get to. The youtube "super mario bros 1 in 5:00" is wrong man. And there's no doubt that he was using some kind of cheat. If you want to continue on the game over screen just hold the "A" button when it says game over and then press start on the main screen. Wo0t SMB1.

I have. They're great! All I'm missing is the one with Super Mario World.
This is the game that show the early power of the NES and the main game to prove that videogame could do much more than just scores. The most memorable moment for me in this game is getting those multiple 1Up from a buzzy beetles. Of the glitchy minus level trick is in this game and though I hate that level, it's interesting to note. I'm glad that level didn't make it to the All-Stars version.
Actually Son Ninja, some copies had the code required to open the minus world. I think there were the Famicom SMB1 game's Worlds -2 and -3 included in the American version too. Unintentionally, of course.
Best game next to super smash bros series. I still remember getting my first super mushroom.

Uh, I beat the game twice and now on the very first level on the first world there are beetles instead of goombas. I've tried to reset the game but it won't take me back to where the goombas are in it like the original.
I beat the game and upon starting a new game the beetles show up instead of the goombas. How do I reset so it doesn't happen again? The regular Wii reset didn't work.
I found out how to delete the saved data. From the Wii Main Menu, click on "Options>Data Management>Save Data>Wii". You will see Super Mario Bros listed. Click on it and select delete.
