Koei Tecmo Europe Says Fatal Frame isn't Getting Localized

Will remain a Japan-only exclusive

Last week I reported that during a recent stream for Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven, viewers pointed out certain "hints" that indicated the game was going to be released outside of Japan. Many fans were optimistic that (for the first time in eight years) a main Fatal Frame game would see a wider release - a remake of Fatal Frame 2 for the Wii was released in Europe and Australia and a 3DS spin-off got a world-wide release. Unfortunately, it seems Nintendo and developer Koei Tecmo were trolling its viewers.

Earlier this morning, in response to Twitter users requesting news of a potential localization using the hashtag #WeWantFatalFrame, Koei Tecmo Europe tweeted the following:

And regarding #WeWantFatalFrame requests, as far as we know this title is JP release only. Back to the office tomorrow FYI.

Needless to say, fans of the series (and Nintendo loyalists) aren't taking the news well. They have taken to the internet to express their outrage and disappointment. Many are saying that this was the "final straw" in their support for Nintendo, while others are calling for a boycott of all the companies' products.

A petition to get the game localized has already secured over 2,500 signatures at the time of this article. The previously mentioned #WeWantFatalFrame continues to pick up steam and shows no sign of slowing down.

Before people get really crazy, it's important to point out that only the European branch of Koei Tecmo have commented on the matter. Neither Koei Tecmo America or Nintendo, (who has final say in localization), have issued any statement on the release status of the game. So while things do look grim, until we hear it directly from the publisher's mouth, there is still a glimmer of hope.

This is so disappointing. I love horror games, and I feel like Wii U is a great system for them.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).
