Sanyo contactless Wiimote charger

Over in Japan, Sanyo are bringing out a new charger and battery pack for use with the Wiimote. Unlike others before, this pair offers 'contactless' charging, meaning it doesn't charge through electric plates. It's also the first charger to be officially licensed by Nintendo.

One potential advantage of this is that you won't have to take off your Wii Remote jacket (if you use one) before charging. You simply put the whole thing into the charger dock. It works by using eneloop cells inside the battery pack, they charge up through induction (magnetic fields).

In terms of pricing it's set to be more expensive than other chargers. Japanese buyers can expect to pay around 5,500 Yen for the privelege (that's around $50), and it will only charge one remote at a time.

The Sanyo contactless charger hits Japan on August 25th. Currently there are no plans to release it in other regions.

Wowzers! Must be pretty good if it's licensed by Nintendo.

That costs WAY too much to be able to charge one wiimote at a time. For that price you can buy about 16 rechargables with a charger. That way you can cycle through batteries without ever having to stop playing. Sanyo's contraption is less convenient than they make it out to be.

It's alright. I'll just stick to Nyko's version for now.

Kewl. And does anyone actually use the jacket? I never actually got them because I was too lazy to go online a second time (I DID get the replacement straps).

Ouch that's expensive, it must be extremely reliable. Sanyo 3D0 consoles were, why not these.

Where do you buy it online from, as I can't find any site which sells?
