Making portals to hell and animal slaughter "kid-friendly"
Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi, the top dogs of Nintendo's internal development team, were recently asked in an interview with Kotaku about the indie smash-hit Minecraft.
In Takahashi's own words, "We've always thought internally that using the GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that's very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids."
Miyamoto, being his usual whimsically-deceptive self, even went so far as to suggest, "Maybe we're meeting with them [Mojang]! Who knows?"
It would certainly be interesting to see how Minecraft controls working with both a touch screen and controller, as well as what little goodies Nintendo might throw into the mix (A Minecraft goomba or Mario skin, perhaps?), but in all reality this could just be an attempt to show the company's willingness to work with independent developers, a market niche that the Wii U has yet to sufficiently cultivate. Either way, the surprising level of consideration towards a Minecraft port presents a tantalizing look into the future of both consoles, even if that look turns out to be just a mirage.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

That's semi promising at least. Over a year ago Mojang said a Wii U version would be very unlikely. I think Wii U is going to enjoy a surge in popularity, though. It needs it.
