Reggie never promised 32 player online at E3. He actually said, and this is a little off, but close: "Mario Kart Wii will support online races. Just how many players? You'll have to wait and see". 12 players online is more than enough, considering previous games had 8 player Grand Prix anyway.

Why couldn't it have been like this: SNES - Vanilla Lake 2, Donut Plains 3, Mario Circuit 1. N64 - Luigi Raceway (that should have been in DS), DK's Jungle Parkway, Frappe Snowland (the best N64 track). GBA - Beach Circuit, Riverside Park, Cheep Cheep Island. GCN - Waluigi Stadium and DK Mountain were perfect, but where's Mushroom City? DS - Peach Gardens, Desert Hills and Airship Fortress sounds perfect too.
