In a recent interview conducted with Opera, they suggested the full version of the Wii browser software should be available in late March or early April.
When asked if there would be any keyboard support, unfortunately Opera passed the buck to Big N: "You will have to check with Nintendo on their plans to offer a keyboard. Opera would not be involved in this".
The good news is that after the full release, the software will still be updated regularly.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

Ah but how much will it cost?

I downloaded the beta and simply did not like it. To be honest I found the whole experience to cumbersome and I found the picture too bad even on my hi-def TV compared to just browsing on a computer.
Chaos said:
Cool. So if it gets a regular update I won't have much to worry about. I wonder what the full version has new to offer us?

Tabbed browsing! Multi-Tasking is a necessity, please don't let me down Opera Dev team.
Koen van Beeck said:
Tabs, please. Oh please, tabs. Wait, what am I saying? I'm not going to get it. My Wii is literally less than one step away from my computer.

I'm on the opera browser now.

One less reason to keep my computer. Go Wii!

Why is Opera leaving it up to Nintendo for keyboard support!? I'm for the wiimote but come on! The wiimote can act as the mouse along with a regular keyboard and you're good to go. It may not feel as ergonomic but it will not take that long to get acclimated to that combo. Please do not screw this up.

Woohoo go opera posting from the browser now.
Ekaj185 said:
Yes. More support for Wii. And I need a keyboard.

Let's see. Typing for 10 minutes on Wii, or turning around and typing for 10 seconds on my laptop. Unless there is a keyboard accessory, I'll stick with my laptop!
Unknown said:
It will cost nothing until June and then it will be 500 Wii points.
Hey said:
Whoa Unknown, where did you hear those figures? Because that's pretty cheap!
Robert said:
Thanks Unknown, but everything under "Wii Ware" is free. I'm all for a USB-plugged in keyboard. A printer would be nice too (there are 2 USB Ports on the back of the Wii). One last thing - I'd like to see Nintendo make something like MS Word for Wii. Please note I DO NOT SUPPORT THE 360 AT ALL!
me said:
I heard the same thing as "unknown" did. You get to try it free for 2 months, then it'll cost 500 Wii points.
blah blah said:
Yeah I heard it'll be able to spy on you from space. If you download it in the first two months, it'll be free (and stay free forever, it's not a 'trial period' or anything). If you don't get until later, you'll have to pay for it. And for tabbed browsing (if the final version doesn't have it), try Wiiminder. It's not supposed to replace a regular browser on a pc, it's just cool for watching youtube etc on your TV.

Needs to support 480p for clear text reading.

I wonder if it will cost 500 points per month after the 2 month trial or will it be 500 points and you get the whole thing forever. Can anyone shed some light?

I hope that the wii keyboard comes out early-mid April. I hope we can have more formats supported and hopefully there will but a cut and paste feature. Also better link support.
evilsupermatt said:
I'm on my Wii right now too and keyboard support is necessary. The Wii is my only access to the internet so more media and download support.
superwiidude2 said:
Super Wii dude, they did the best they could. You can't please everyone.
evilsupermatt said:
That's true. But the full version hasn't released yet, so who knows. I do think it's great though.

It's obvious that keyboard support will come, be patient. Nintendo is kicking ass right now.
nasher said:
I'm sorry but Wii has to name all of the things the right way! I was thinking along the lines of: The Wiiboard, Wiimail and some others I can't remember.
the rain said:
Nasher I like it. But I'm thinking keywii for the keyboard. Am I wrong?
pyroDoom said:
The full browser is free to download and free to use permanently as long as you download it before the end of June '07, after that it will be 500 points to download. Whether or not it has a keyboard makes no difference to me, I just love the fact that I can go on YouTube and watch anime videos full screen on my TV.
BigNintendoFanChaz said:
Well, I'm on the opera browser now. And it takes a long time to get on to the actual internet for me. I think the keyboard should plug in like the Nunchuk and Virtual Console controller does. Also the little toolbar at the bottom that lets you see your favorites and go back and forward etc should disappear after a few seconds just so you can see things in proper full screen. Otherwise it's pointless on youtube because when I click to go full screen the size of the actual picture is the same size as my comp screen and I have a big TV in my room.

I can live without a keyboard for a bit (I'm stuck with just my Wii for right now) but what must be updated soon are stored passwords. That's the biggest reason I miss my pc.
