Earlier today, Nintendo of America's President Reggie Fils-Aime took some questions regarding the possibility of MMORPGs on the Wii. MMORPG stands for Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, a large genre on the PC including games like World of Warcraft, Everquest and Anarchy Online.
He responded by saying the Wii is certainly powerful enough to handle an MMORPG and that while Nintendo themselves have no current MMORPG plans, they are encouraging third parties to look into it.
How about an MMORPG featuring Miis? Miis World. That'll do.

Nintendo has all the good ideas. Go Wii!

If they did something like that, they would get an edge over the competition. I'm going to get one for sure, and just hope that they make a mmorpg for it. A FF one would be cool.

Let's hope the first one will be Pokemon. Cor, can you imagine the possibilities?

The controls worry me. As do the standard communications in MMOs. Having to type 99% of your communication to your friends would pose a problem. Now, if it came with an adapter headset.

I would love a Mii-based MMORPG! Sadly I have dial-up internet.

Not necessarily an "innovative" (god Nintendo killed that word) idea, but a well welcomed one anyways.

Nyte, rumor has it (yes, I read it in the Rumor section) is that Nintendo has been working on this headphone that... Oh, just read it!

I would love to "fight" my friends' miis over tv. That would be awesome.

I don't think an MMORPG would be a good idea for a console. If you want to play MMORPGs just use your computer. Chances are that your computer will run the game a lot smother than the Wii would. I bought a Wii so I can play fun games meant for a console and get away from the lag in all MMORPGS (IronForge).

I agree with linkster I hope they do come out with a pokemon mmorpg. Something that allows people to play, walk, battle and even trade with friends and other people you just happen to walk by upon traveling. I mean not only would you get to trade and battle via internet but walk and meet other people who you can talk to and maybe join them on their adventure or battle them, without knowing them or searching for a friend code.

Teh_pwnerer 1) Not everyone can afford an powerful gaming PC. 2) The Wii controls are awesome for working in a 3d environment found in most MMORPGs. Anyhow it would have to be "innovative" just like everything Nintendo has been doing with the Wii & DS. I have to give Nintendo a thumbs up for everything they are doing for the gaming industry, they are expanding the market to include everyone, not just violent 10-35 year old male technofiles who made up more than 70% of the game community pre-Wii. My freaking 60 year old parents own a Wii now. They would love a virtual MMORPG life if it ain't all about violence like many of the more popular MMORPGs, like WOW & Guild Wars. Maybe something more like LotRO, or Sims and me being a violent technofile myself would love to go all PvP with my Wii controls. I love beating up my friends with the boxing game in Wii sports. It would be fun to see what happens. I definitely think a clean Nintendo style with Mario style violence in a MMORPG with the mii's if done right would be well accepted.

They should make a Zelda based mmorpg for Wii, people would be salivating over it! I mean seriously who doesn't want to shoot and hack people up while gaining levels etc.

Don't you have to download maplestory? Would that work? If it does, get conquer online instead.
GameFreak said:
Oh man I wish they would come out with Wii mmorpgs like Final Fantasy 12 combat systems or better yet, a Maple story MMO. Oh my god that would be so amazingly fun! But with a slight problem, downloading the updates. The Wii friend codes, heh. Maybe they should make like hmm click this character "add">> Simple just like any other mmos, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be so simple. More ideas. A maple story for the Wii. They should come out with updates once in 2-5 months, or maybe once a year. Don't know, I do know that it's a big file, and lots of players love maple story.

A Wii mmorpg. It should be like a medieval mmorpg. That would be so awesome, they should mix like Zelda, Final Fantasy and Soul Calibur.
Ichi chan said:
I heard from some random forum that Nintendo has rights to Nexon, if that's true then Maple Story should be #1 priority. Also if that were to be released in WiiWare Nintendo would have some serious cash flow.

One of the biggest problems with MMORPG is the hours of physical inactivity. With a Wii type console, at least one could get a work out of it. I could get work out old school style with dumbbells and an exercise ball, or I could work out with Wii (but that means playing idiotic games like dance dance revolution). It would be intensely cool to get a work out while questing in Northrend. Imagine doing a dungeon and working up a sweat at the same time. It would rock! The only problem that I can think of is that the Wii would not be able to accommodate all the keys for a game like WoW. They would need to build a special console that would have a mini-keyboard of some kind to accommodate all the spells and abilities of a good RPG. I mean they could do a crappy punch and slash RPG game for the Wii, but it would be boring. The complexity of Wow is what makes it a good game. Although, if they could do it, it may make WoW less of a useless activity. (don't get me wrong, I did not primarily stop playing WoW because of the inactivity, but it is a serious concern. Didn't some guy die after having played WoW for many days straight?) Hey maybe they could even make controllers with weights for some serious authenticity.
