I used to love this game.

Oh man. This is going to be awesome. I remember back when (trippy scene transition) when we used to trip acid and race the rainbow road for hours. Man, I never thought I was falling so much (end trippy scene). But, back to the point. I can't wait for this! 4 player battles were the best.

I really can't wait to get this. It is the best Mario Kart of the series in my opinion (just beating DS) and had me and my siblings playing it non stop the Christmas we got our N64. Yoshi is obviously the best character in it, and I like the simplicity of the karts rather than the different vehicles of Double Dash and DS versions. The red shells are the best in this version too, being very fast and ruthless, they are way too slow in Double Dash on the Cube! I love this game! Right up there with Super Mario 64 and F-Zero X as the best N64 games!

A teacher I know at my school, John Muir, would bring his Nintendo 64 and some of us got to play it with him.

Ryan said:

Does anyone know if this and other VC games will be online?

Avatar

Sonic Fan said:

Oh yeah! I love this game so much. This is the first game I'm going to download on the Wii. As soon as I get it that is.

Avatar

DragonFoxCoon said:

Wait. A teacher brought his N64 to school, and raced against his students? I wish my teachers could've been that cool.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

I don't know if he really does it in class, because I only saw this happen in Saturday School.

I had this for 64 then I lost it and I loved that too. I need Wii points.

someguy said:

WHO HOO! I have 1000 Wii points, I'm so happy.

Avatar

Gonzo said:

No wonder these graphics are better than the other VC games. This was made in 97'. I want this game but my mom sold back the VC controller because she said that I wouldn't use it. I hope the rumor is true what Wii Freak said that their will be a Mario Kart Wii.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Hey someguy, why not get 2000 Wii points. It only costs $20!

Avatar

Gonzo said:

When I was younger I used to play this at my babysitters house. The system wasn't hers, it was her grandson's. The let me play and I played with them too.

When is Nintendo going to frickin release some n64 games cmon! Oh of course Japan has some but not us. We totally got the VC Shaft!

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Look on the bright side trmn8r, we got Super Mario 64.

Avatar

myff said:

This is the one game I want for VC. KICK ASS! And Iza, my mates used to have similar experiences with Rainbow Road, I wonder what it was about that track?

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

They have to make Mario Kart Wii. They had Mario kart for the Snes, GBA, Gamecube and DS.

B. Darius said:

Yo! I just found out that Mario Kart 64 is coming out on the 29th!

Nintendo guy said:

29th of what month [by the way I'm on my Wii browser right now!] wahooooo!

This month! OH YEAH.

Does anyone know if MarioKart64 on the vc will be compatible with the Wii remote? That would be really cool (to steer it like excite truck). Also, if Goldeneye every comes out on the VC, the remote could be used to shoot at people--that would be awesome--another one of the best n64 games.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Don't think so. VC games are not meant to be played on the Wiimote. But that would be neat if it did.

Avatar

Hexum73 said:

YES! I havent played this game in so long, and when I heard that Wii was going to have a virtual console I was like "OMG I can play it yet again!". I'm so glad it's going to be here soon. DRINKS FOR EVERYONE!

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

No thanks Hexum73. I'm not allowed to drink. I'm only 13.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

I'm getting a Wii today probably, so I'm ready to say, YATAI! And Hexum73, do you have any Dr. Pepper?

Andrew Rudloff said:

I'm making a promise to myself that as soon as I get the Wii, MARIO KART 64 is the first game I'm downloading.

Avatar

Andrew Rudloff said:

I love Mario Kart 64! Go Luigi! Luigi is #1.

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

For a while I didn't have Wireless Internet so I couldn't get VC games. But then I got a router and now I have it. Mario Kart 64 was the first game I downloaded!

Avatar

Gonzo said:

Ever since the N64 the graphics started looking better.

Avatar

NWiiGMR said:

This was one of the only games I can remember playing on the N64 (besides SM64) and I would play it for hours. It was awesome. I'm just afraid it will take up too much space on the wii hard drive.

Avatar

Janeeto said:

No it doesn't. My brother has a Wii, and it has a lot of memory.

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

Yeah I downloaded a lot of stuff and still have over 1000 blocks.

Avatar

Toad said:

They were going to call this game super mario kart R, with kamek instead of wario, but they changed it.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Kamek? Really? Why did they get rid of him? He would have made a good addition to the franchise.

Avatar

Toad said:

Yeah but wario was getting popular and kamak, well nobody knew about him. This is the 3rd game I got for N64.

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

It's better that they used Wario.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

That is true. Wario was getting very popular, and Kamek was only in 1 Mario game, which was more of a Yoshi game in my terms.

Avatar

Pinky said:

Holy moly guacamole, this game is great for its time.

Avatar

Gonzo said:

I'm dying for a Mario Kart Wii!

Avatar

B Darius said:

If they DO come out with "Mario Kart Wii", I'm sure as hell getting it! I've had every single Mario Kart game there is.

My whole family is a fan of Mario Kart. My uncles, aunts and my parents were all into it, not just me and my cousins.

Wii Freak said:

For Magikoopa, they were going to replace DK.

Avatar

Toad said:

They were going to replace Koopa with him, but they replaced Koopa, with wario.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Koopa was cool! Why did they get rid of him?

Avatar

Wii Freak said:

Koopa was in double dash.

I've played the DS version. I like it a lot.

Avatar

Best Mario Kart ever. What's with everyone liking double dash? I hated it.

Avatar

bamawii said:

Played again today. My 5 year old is getting good at this game. I am a proud papa.

Avatar

Nemo said:

This game is so amazingly fun I would've paid 2000 points for it! And If you're not sure about getting this because of the criticisms about the controls compared to the original (like I was), don't worry because they were all wrong, it feels just like the original.

Avatar

davyt 0247 said:

Rainbow road explained, if you jumped at the right time at the first big drop after the star/finish line, you could skip half of the track.

Avatar

Captain Jamesman said:

Coryd10, what is there to hate about Double Dash, other then the fact it was pretty easy?

Avatar

Rags said:

Awesome game. Has my favorite Mario Kart course to date. But Double Dash is still the best in my opinion. Can't wait for Wii.

Son Ninja said:

I like this game although I love the Super NES original more but this game had me hook. Although my favorite driver (Koopa Troopa) was not in this game, I found a new champion in Bowser. He was a bad-ass driver and a tough road crusher in this game. The reason Bowser wasn't my character in the Super NES game was because of the coin system, if Bowser doesn't had any coins he could be pounce off-round by anyone but Mario Kart 64 doesn't had coins anymore and Bowser is unstoppable due to that which I like. Of course, veteran players could still overpower him with DK and Wario (or any of the power-ups) but it won't be enough to slow him down.

Diddy Kong Lover said:

This is easily the best Mario Kart and best racing game. I usually played as Toad because he could go so fast. This game was hard, had random items, and tracks worth doing 3 times unlike Mario Kart DS.

I have it on N64, I'll pass. Anyway, we don't want this on VC, we want Super Mario Kart.
