How to transfer from Wii to Wii U

How to transfer from Wii to Wii U

Step by step

If you've built up a collection of WiiWare or Virtual Console games, you'll naturally want to transfer them onto your brand new Wii U console.

Before starting, you need an SD card to do the transfer. These can be picked up cheaply from many stores.

  1. Insert your SD card into the Wii U.
  2. Run the app called Wii System Transfer.
  3. At the prompt, remove the SD card and insert it into the old Wii.
  4. Download and run the transfer app from the Wii Shop.
  5. After all required data has been moved onto the SD card, put it back into the Wii U.
  6. Wait while the data is moved into the Wii U and deleted from the SD card.

If you're wondering what exactly can be transferred, here's the list:

    Transferrable
  • Wii retail game save data.
  • WiiWare games and save data.
  • Virtual Console games and save data.
  • DLC.
  • Wii Shop points and activity logs.
  • Miis.
