In a recent interview Shigeru Miyamoto shunned the trend for digital distribution in gaming and expressed a love for all things physical.
"Personally, I'm one of those guys who, even if I have all the songs from iTunes, I want the CD as well. I feel more reassured with that physical media. Entertainment is something that will not just become digital. If I look at Wii MotionPlus, this is something that you're not doing via digital distribution. The thing for us is we really don't see the future of video games being merely confined to digital distribution or moving solely or even to a majority of our products being distributed that way".
...he's right, you can't download a peripheral. Good old Shigsy, he's always thinking outside the box.

Wii's World is not officially affiliated with Nintendo! (but they wish we were).

I do like looking at my shelf and seeing all the games I have collected over the years. I probably wouldn't get the same feeling looking at a list of games in a downloaded list.

I've a few shelves full myself, and a pile on the floor. I don't like getting rid of games I've enjoyed, so I hang onto them. I'm looking forward to the download era, hopefully it comes before I run out of space.

I don't like digital, I can't let my friend play it so he can see why I love it so much. (well I could but I ain't loaning my console for 2 weeks so he can beat it). Also, love that I don't need to register or even have an email address to post, smart move on your end.

I agree that I prefer physical media, but I disagree about the direction that entertainment is going. Entertainment is definitely going digital, like it or not. Look at Blockbuster, now facing hard times because of Netflix, which is quickly becoming outpaced by VOD services. The music stores in my town now sell other items, like sports memorabilia, to keep the doors from shutting. People don't have photo albums on their coffee tables anymore; if you're lucky they forget and leave the camera or laptop out. We're digitally erasing physical memories of our generation every step we take. So yeah, I hope that video games continue selling in physical formats, though I'm not going to hold my breath.

Yeah I can't even rent games because I like to attribute the game on my shelf as a trophy that I bought and beat it. Even if I haven't beaten everything.

Like everyone else I have a preference of physical media. I have a fairly large collection of old games and it feels more satisfying to own something seperate from the hardware it runs on. Plus it gives you the opportunity to sell any games you didn't like and want to forget about. Downloading stuff just doesn't feel the same.

I'm with you guys. I used to trade all my games in, but then I would end up re-buying them to play again. Since I got my Wii and DS I've been keeping them, and it's great to look at my 30+ Wii cases and 20+ DS cases. The problem with downloading software for me is if you get a new console/unit. Like with the Wii; if I would break mine how would I get my virtual console games back without paying again? With CDs and cartridges, you can always go back and play it on the original console, as well as have access to backwards compatibility.

Definitely against digital for the most part. I like seeing a physical collection of games that always puts a smile on my face. Plus you can let your friends borrow, and you don't need a connection, and it's simply cool seeing all your games there. What^ David said is true. If your console effed up and you only had digital games well you would be MAJOR SCREWED but with actual CDs at least you would still have your games. The backward compatibility is also important to this. I think what everyone said are all valid points. So THANK YOU MR. Nintendo.

He's simply saying digital distribution only isn't happening, and a dig at pspgo. The future is still download, stream, physical media, I would call that commonsense. Shigsy is the god of simple commonsense.

So, Shigsy's my kind of guy. A man with nostalgia in physical objects. Nice, glad to have stuck with Nintendo.
