A new scheme is being trialled in the UK where Wii consoles are put in schools. The aim is to help kids boost their fitness during lunch times and breaks. This stems from research showing that child obesity levels have risen dramatically. Personally I'm more worried about the shape of that kid's head. Miis in Mario Kart Wii

The latest edition of Famitsu magazine has some fresh new details on Mario Kart Wii. First and foremost, the game is said to release in Japan on April 10th, for around 5800 Yen ($54). North America is also expected to get it sometime during the second quarter. 16 tracks (8 new, 8 remakes). Wi-Fi games for up to 12 players. Baby Peach and Boo will be racers. Civilization Wii development halted

Bad news for Civilization fans who were hoping to play it on Wii. For the time being at least, development has been halted. CID the Dummy announced for Wii

In a press release earlier today, a new action platformer destined for Wii and DS was announced. CID the Dummy is under development by Twelve Interactive and will be published by Oxygen Games. CID is a crash test dummy with a variety of fighting moves, including a head-butt that can break down walls. Apparently he can also climb, swing on ropes, burn things and bounce on springs. Nintendo washing Wiis

A number of Wii users in Japan have been complaining that Super Smash Bros. Brawl fails to load or stutters during gameplay on their console. Nintendo has deduced the problem is unclean lenses, due to dust and tobacco smoke. Brawl uses a dual layer DVD which they say is more sensitive to the imperfections. Mario games hitting South Africa

These days, Core Gaming Group (CGG) are an official Nintendo representative in South Africa. Wii was launched in the region during October 2007 and has been a big success story. Eternity's Child WiiWare

Word of 2D side-scrolling platformer Eternity's Child coming to Wii was gotten a few weeks ago. Now it turns out that the game will be a WiiWare download. Pricing is set at only 500 points ($5), which seems pretty reasonable. According to the creator Luc Bernard, motion controls will probably be included, but they'll be optional. Rock Band for Wii confirmed

John Riccitiello, the CEO at EA has revealed a Wii version of hit game Rock Band is coming. When asked about Rock Band Wii he said: "EA will, at some time, bring Rock Band to every important platform. I think the Wiimote is something that holds enormous promise". This wasn't an actual official statement but others at EA have confirmed it too. No clues as to a release date at this stage though.... read more
